In the short term, individuals with existing gambling problems should be recognized as a vulnerable group.

The impact of the initial Covid-19 lockdown upon regular sports bettors in Britain: Findings from a cross-sectional online study

Summary: The study found that nearly one-third of male sports bettors and female sports bettors stopped gambling altogether during the initial Covid-19 lockdown, while some individuals started new forms of gambling. Men who started a new gambling activity during lockdown had a higher risk of problem gambling, and women who increased their gambling frequency during lockdown had a higher risk of moderate risk or problem gambling. Poorer wellbeing was associated with problem gambling for men and moderate risk or problem gambling for women.
