Measuring the squared amplitudes of the Laguerre-Gaussian beams via a single intensity frame

Maryam Mohagheghian et al.

Summary: This study proposes the use of an intensity technique to decompose superpositions consisting of multiple basis Laguerre-Gaussian modes and measure their orbital angular momentum. The results demonstrate that the squared amplitudes of superpositions can be determined by recording a single frame of the intensity distribution on a 2f optical imaging system, achieving high accuracy.

Characteristics of fork-shaped fringes formed by off-axis interference of two vortex beams

Jingbo Ma et al.

Summary: The study investigates off-axis interference between two oblique-incident vortex beams, establishing new formulas to describe various fork-shaped fringes. Experimental measurements and numerical simulations confirm the accuracy of the theoretical results, which can be applied to detect the TCs' sign and value of unknown vortex beams effectively.

Probing the limits of orbital angular momentum generation and detection with spatial light modulators

Jonathan Pinnell et al.

Summary: This study explores the limits of spatial light modulators (SLMs) in generating and detecting vortex beams, quantifying how pixelation affects the quality of vortex modes and offering heuristics for optimizing digital hologram performance. The authors successfully generated and detected a high-order optical vortex mode with a topological charge of l=600, showcasing the capabilities of SLMs in structured light fields.

All-Dielectric Metasurface for Manipulating the Superpositions of Orbital Angular Momentum via Spin-Decoupling

Chenglong Zheng et al.

Summary: This article proposes a dielectric metasurface that generates polarization-controllable superpositions of OAM patterns in the terahertz band, and achieves the conversion of SAM to OAM. The feasibility of the theory has been verified in experiments, and this multifunctional design can find applications in particle manipulation, communication, harmonic generation, among other fields.

Single-shot generation of composite optical vortex beams using hybrid binary fork gratings

Nirjhar Kumar et al.

Summary: A simple and efficient method for generating arbitrary composite vortex (CV) beams using hybrid binary fork gratings (hBFG) was successfully demonstrated. The method was extended to generate CV beams with three different azimuthal charges and higher radial charges, providing a useful tool for generating complex beam shapes with engineered phase fronts.

A Resolution-Enhanced Digital Micromirror Device (DMD) Projection System

Yijing Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a resolution-enhanced system for digital micromirror device (DMD) projected images using time multiplexing and birefringence, with the aim of achieving high resolution display with static components only. The system provides a less expensive solution than reducing hardware pixel size and can be applied to higher resolution displays. The functioning of the system is verified through enlarged images of the letter 'R' and a checkerboard pattern formed from a small number of DMD pixels.
