Evaluation of oncological outcomes of robotic partial nephrectomy according to the type of hilar control approach (On-clamp vs Off-clamp), a multicentric study of the French network of research on kidney cancer-UROCCR 58-NCT03293563

Adil Mellouki et al.

Summary: This study compared the oncological outcomes of off-clamp and on-clamp robotic partial nephrectomy for renal cell carcinoma and found that the hilar control approach did not have a significant impact on positive surgical margin rate or survival outcomes. Age at surgery was found to be an independent factor affecting positive surgical margin.

Experience with 10 years of a robotic surgery program at an Academic Medical Center

Sarah B. Stringfield et al.

Summary: This study examines a 10-year robotic surgery program at a single academic institution, finding significant growth in robotic technology usage with positive fiscal and clinical outcomes. Operating efficiency has improved, length of stay is shorter, admission costs are lower than open surgeries, and readmission rates are lower following robotic surgeries.

Summary: The study found significant heterogeneity among surgeons in functional and oncological outcomes, primarily determined by the number and experience of surgeons. Comparative analyses between RALP and RRP produce different results based on various factors of surgeons.

Outcomes of robotic esophagectomies for esophageal cancer by hospital volume: an analysis of the national cancer database

Jonathan J. Hue et al.

Summary: The study found that robotic minimally invasive esophagectomies (RMIE) performed at low-volume institutions have higher mortality rates, lower number of lymph nodes evaluated, longer length of stay, and lower overall survival rates. These results support regionalization of RMIE or enhanced training in lower volume hospitals.

Long-term functional outcomes after robot-assisted prostatectomy compared to laparoscopic prostatectomy: Results from a national retrospective cluster study

Melanie M. A. Lindenberg et al.

Summary: A retrospective cluster study was conducted in 12 Dutch hospitals to evaluate the long-term sexual and urinary functioning after Robot-Assisted Radical Prostatectomy (RARP) and Laparoscopic Radical Prostatectomy (LRP). The study showed that RARP resulted in better long-term urinary function compared to LRP, with shorter procedure time and reduced blood loss.

Effects of 1-Year Hospital Volume on Surgical Margin and Biochemical-Failure-Free Survival in Patients Undergoing Robotic versus Nonrobotic Radical Prostatectomy: A Nationwide Cohort Study from the National Taiwan Cancer Database

Shyh-Chyi Chang et al.

Summary: Limited evidence suggests that hospital volume may affect oncologic outcomes in patients undergoing robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy, with higher hospital volume associated with improved biochemical-failure-free survival and positive surgical margin rates.

Patterns of adoption of robotic radical prostatectomy in the United States and England

Laia Maynou et al.

Summary: The study compared the adoption patterns of minimally invasive surgery for radical prostatectomy in the United States and England from 2005 to 2017. Robotic surgery was found to be more rapidly adopted in the US, with older and more comorbid patients undergoing surgery in both countries. Minimally invasive techniques showed reduced length of stay and 30-day readmission rates compared to open surgery, with differences in adoption rates and centralization of volume across countries likely due to cost-containment efforts.

Association of surgeon and hospital volume with short-term outcomes after robot-assisted radical prostatectomy: Nationwide, population-based study

Rebecka Arnsrud Godtman et al.

Summary: The study found that in robot-assisted radical prostatectomy, the surgical volume of both surgeons and hospitals was associated with peri-operative and short-term outcomes, with higher volume groups generally achieving better results. However, even with similar surgical volumes, there was a wide range in outcomes, indicating that factors other than volume also play a significant role in surgical outcomes.
