Simultaneous resection for synchronous colorectal cancer liver metastases: A feasibility clinical trial

Pablo E. Serrano et al.

Summary: The study tested the feasibility of a simultaneous resection clinical trial in patients with synchronous colorectal cancer liver metastases, showing a high feasibility but higher than anticipated postoperative complication rate.

Evaluating the longitudinal effect of colorectal surgery on health-related quality of life in patients with colorectal cancer

Muriel Reudink et al.

Summary: Surgery for colorectal cancer has a negative impact on health-related quality of life. This study found differences in HRQoL depending on the type of surgery, with rectal resection patients experiencing more pain and decreased role and social functioning scores 4 weeks post-surgery. Physical functioning did not return to baseline level during follow-up for patients who underwent left-sided and rectal resection.

Simultaneous Versus Delayed Resection for Initially Resectable Synchronous Colorectal Cancer Liver Metastases A Prospective, Open-label, Randomized, Controlled Trial

Karim Boudjema et al.

Summary: This study compared simultaneous resection and delayed resection of synchronous colorectal cancer liver metastases, finding no significant difference in the rate of major complications between the two groups. However, delayed resection tended to impair overall survival.

Long-Term Oncologic Outcomes After Laparoscopic Versus Open Resection for Colorectal Liver Metastases A Randomized Trial

Davit L. Aghayan et al.

Summary: In this randomized trial comparing laparoscopic and open liver surgery for patients with colorectal liver metastases, there was no significant difference in survival outcomes between the two treatment groups. However, variability in 5-year overall survival rates by up to about 10 percentage points was observed.

Quality of life and patient satisfaction after single- and multiport laparoscopic surgery in colon cancer: a multicentre randomised controlled trial (SIMPLE Trial)

Byung Mo Kang et al.

Summary: The clinical benefits of single-port laparoscopic surgery (SPLS) in colon cancer patients are unclear, as only a few studies have reported on the quality of life (QoL) of such patients. The study aimed to compare the QoL and patient satisfaction between SPLS and multiport laparoscopic surgery (MPLS) in colon cancer. Overall, there were no significant differences in QoL and patient satisfaction between SPLS and MPLS groups, although better outcomes were observed in the SPLS group in patients without adjuvant chemotherapy at 1 month postoperatively.
