Real-Life Data From the Largest Pediatric Familial Mediterranean Fever Cohort

Kuebra Ozturk et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the clinical findings, phenotype-genotype correlation, and treatment outcomes in pediatric patients with FMF. Patients with specific gene mutations showed more severe symptoms in terms of age of disease onset, annual attack count, and colchicine resistance.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to share the clinical findings, natural course, and treatment response rates of a large cohort of patients with periodic fever, aphthous stomatitis, pharyngitis, and adenitis (PFAPA) syndrome. The study reviewed medical records of PFAPA syndrome patients diagnosed between January 2010 and May 2021 at Istanbul University-Cerrahpasa Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty pediatric rheumatology department.

PFAPA (periodic fever, aphthous stomatitis, pharyngitis, and adenitis) syndrome: an overview of genetic background

Kosar Asna Ashari et al.

Summary: Periodic fever, aphthous stomatitis, pharyngitis, and cervical adenitis (PFAPA) syndrome is an autoinflammatory disorder with uncertain origin. It is suggested to have a genetic basis with possible variations in genes such as MEFV, NLRP, TNFRSF1A, CARD15/NOD2, and MVK. Furthermore, PFAPA pathogenesis may involve inflammasomes and environmental triggers, indicating a multifactorial or polygenic nature of the disease.

Summary: The study demonstrates that colchicine therapy significantly reduces the frequency and intensity of disease episodes in pediatric patients with PFAPA syndrome, as well as the duration of flares. This treatment modality may be effective for patients with frequent or severe relapses.
