Economic assessment of a serial production system with random imperfection and shortages: A step towards sustainability

Muhammad Tayyab et al.

Summary: Recent paradigm shifts in production modeling have expanded the scope of considerations from solely economic factors to also include environmental and social factors. However, existing sustainable production models are limited to single-stage production systems and do not address real-world challenges such as random defective output and shortages. This paper proposes a cleaner multi-stage production management system that reduces carbon emissions and promotes corporate social responsibility while maintaining economic efficiency. The paper analyzes three scenarios of random imperfect proportion and suggests a planned backorder policy to improve service level. Analytical optimization techniques are used to determine batch size and backorder quantity, minimizing overall cost. Numerical evaluation and sensitivity analysis are conducted to compare different model scenarios and provide valuable managerial insights.

A Multi-Objective Green Hub Location Problem with Multi Item-Multi Temperature Joint Distribution for Perishable Products in Cold Supply Chain

Maryam Golestani et al.

Summary: This paper investigates a bi-objective green hub location problem in a cold supply chain, aiming to minimize the system's total cost and maximize the quality of the delivered product to the customer. The proposed model integrates tactical/operational decisions with strategic decisions to provide logistic solutions in CSCs. The results reveal a trade-off between the quality of the delivered perishable product and the system's total cost.
