Structured-Glass Waveguide Technology for High-Performance Millimetre-Wave Components and Systems

Chad Bartlett et al.

Summary: This work presents a novel waveguide medium based on laser-induced structured-glass for high-end millimetre-wave components and systems. The material properties, fabrication process, and functional attributes of the structured-glass technology are described, and a fourth-order bandpass filter prototype is demonstrated. The measured performance of the prototype filter validates the design approach, and a comparison to existing technologies highlights the advantages of the proposed medium.

3-D-Printing and High-Precision Milling of W-Band Filter Components With Admittance Inverter Sequences

Chad Bartlett et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the design and fabrication of a W-band bandpass filter and diplexer using admittance inverter sequences at millimeter-wave frequencies. The additively manufactured filter showcases exceptional results with basic SLA methods, while the subtractively manufactured diplexer highlights the use of arbitrary inverter sequences in a more complex design. The dispersive transmission zeros caused by over-moding of the inverter stubs demonstrate unique isolation characteristics in the upper W-band region.
