The gallium isotopic composition of the Moon

Summary: This study presents new Ga isotope data from mare basalts and lunar highland rocks, revealing their isotopic heterogeneity on a larger scale compared to terrestrial magmatic rocks. The causes of this heterogeneity and its implications on the bulk δ71Ga value of the Moon are discussed. The study suggests that Ga isotopes are fractionated within the chemically evolving lunar magma ocean, and the crystallization of plagioclase may drive the observed isotopic fractionation in high-Ti mare basalts and KREEP-rich rocks.

Primordial Helium-3 Exchange Between Earth's Core and Mantle

Summary: Volatile substances from the solar nebula can be found in Earth's deep mantle, and there is a possibility that the core also contains volatile substances from the solar nebula, although the amount is unknown. In this study, calculations of volatile ingassing and degassing are used to estimate the abundance of primordial He-3 in the core and to track the rate of He-3 exchange between the core and mantle throughout Earth's history.

The variability in high-He-3/He-4 mantle reservoirs may reflect ancient mantle heterogeneity or helium addition in the upper or lower mantle.

Summary: The study compared the biodegradation of hexadecane and decane in different filter materials (sand, sand amended with biochar, expanded clay) collected from constructed wetlands. It was found that mineralization rate of hexadecane was higher in sand filters, while adsorption/desorption of hydrocarbons was observed in expanded clay. Additionally, hydrogen isotope fractionation was rarely recorded in expanded clay and sand & biochar filters during decane biodegradation.
