A method of three-dimensional branching geometry to differentiate the intrahepatic vascular type in early-stage liver fibrosis using X-ray phase-contrast CT

Xiaohong Xin et al.

Summary: This study used X-ray phase-contrast computed tomography (PCCT) to image the liver lobes of mice and explored the use of three-dimensional (3D) branching geometry to differentiate between hepatic vein (HV) and portal vein (PV) in early-stage liver fibrosis. The method showed potential value in the diagnosis of early-stage liver fibrosis.

The Outcome of Patients With Cystic Biliary Atresia With Intact Proximal Hepatic Ducts Following Hepatic-Cyst-Jejunostomy

Akihiro Asai et al.

Summary: The outcomes of patients with cystic biliary atresia are closely related to the anatomy of the hepatic ducts and the choice of biliary reconstruction surgery. In patients with healthy proximal hepatic ducts, hepatic-cyst-jejunostomy leads to favorable clinical outcomes.

Laparoscopic revision of Kasai portoenterostomy after initial laparoscopic portoenterostomy in patients with biliary atresia: a limited but positive effect on native liver survival

Daiki Kato et al.

Summary: This study reports the medium-term outcomes of laparoscopic revision of Kasai portoenterostomy (Lap-revision) in patients with biliary atresia (BA). The results show that Lap-revision had a limited but positive effect on native liver survival and did not adversely affect subsequent liver transplantation (LT).

Hemodynamic analysis of hepatic arteries for the early evaluation of hepatic fibrosis in biliary atresia

Jun Du et al.

Summary: This study investigated the hemodynamics of hepatic artery in early BA hepatic fibrosis using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Results showed that as hepatic fibrosis progressed, hemodynamic parameters of HA and related arteries increased, indicating the potential of CFD to assist in the early diagnosis of hepatic fibrosis in BA patients.

Insight into Bile Duct Reaction to Obstruction from a Three-dimensional Perspective Using ex Vivo Phase-Contrast CT

Wen-Juan Lv et al.

Summary: Biliary obstruction leads to increased biliary pressure, triggering morphological adaptation in the bile duct tree. Studying a bile duct ligation rat model and patients with biliary atresia revealed ductular reaction as a response to the increased pressure. Successful biliary tract reconstruction in patients resulted in regression of fibrosis and proliferative ductules.

Simultaneous 3D Visualization of the Microvascular and Neural Network in Mouse Spinal Cord Using Synchrotron Radiation Micro-Computed Tomography

Liyuan Jiang et al.

Summary: Combining Golgi staining with angiography and synchrotron radiation micro-computed tomography (SR mu CT) allowed for the visualization of the 3D neurovascular network in the mouse spinal cord at cellular resolution without destructive sectioning. The 3D morphology of neurons, nerve fiber tracts, and vasculature visualized by SR mu CT was highly consistent with histological methods and could be quantitatively evaluated. This method will be useful in fundamental neuroscience studies.

Histological analyses of trucut liver biopsies from patients with noncirrhotic portal fibrosis and extra-hepatic portal vein obstruction

Archana George Vallonthaiel et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the histopathological changes in liver needle-core biopsies from patients with NCPF and EHPVO, identifying common and distinct characteristics of each condition. Despite considerable overlap, careful histological evaluation, along with clinical, radiological, and biochemical findings, is crucial for making a conclusive diagnosis in patients with NCPF and EHPVO.
