Recovery of AZ91D magnesium alloy waste by vacuum gasification-Directed condensation

Rui Li et al.

Summary: This study adopted the vacuum gasification - directed condensation method to recover AZ91D magnesium alloy waste. The vapor pressure and separation coefficient of main metal magnesium and impurity were calculated, and the three-phase diagram of magnesium and mechanism of molecular motion under vacuum were analyzed. The effects of system pressure, temperature and holding time on the purity of recycled magnesium alloy were investigated, and the optimal experimental conditions were determined. The final purity of magnesium reached 99.96%.

One-step extracting lead from galena (PbS) by a vacuum distillation method

Zhaowang Dong et al.

Summary: An eco-friendly and simple process was proposed to prepare high-purity metal lead directly from lead sulfide in this study. Through thermodynamic calculations and experimental research, it was found that at 1050 degrees Celsius and 60 minutes of holding time, the decomposition rate of lead sulfide reached 50% and the purity of lead in residue was 99.51%.

Magnesium-catalyzed stereoselective transformations-A survey through recent achievements

Anna M. Czombik et al.

Summary: Magnesium, as one of the most abundant metal elements in the Earth's crust, has played a significant role in organic chemistry since the beginning of the 20th century. The discovery of organomagnesium compounds by Philippe A. Barbier and Victor Grignard marked a milestone in the development of organic chemistry, particularly in the realm of enantioselective reactions. While the use of magnesium as a catalyst in asymmetric reactions is relatively limited compared to transition metal-catalyzed or organocatalyzed transformations, there is a growing trend towards utilizing Earth-abundant metals for more environmentally friendly catalysis.

Effect of crystallization on purity of volatile metallic magnesium prepared from a one-step multi-region condensation process under vacuum condition

Bin Yang et al.

Summary: This study reports a green and simple volatilization-condensation process for preparing high-purity magnesium in different crystal forms under vacuum conditions. The method can also be used for analyzing other metals that can be separated using the same concept. Additionally, the condensation of magnesium is a very fast process, and the growth of magnesium crystals is promoted with the increase in magnesium vapor concentration. From a crystallization perspective, the ultrafast crystal growth of high-purity magnesium is a barrier-free and orderly process. Interestingly, different forms of condensed magnesium obtained through this ultrafast volatilization-condensation process exhibit different purities. The distinct morphological formation of magnesium in different condensed forms is likely attributed to the differences in surface energy change during the condensation process.
