Anomalous dose behaviour of thermoluminescence glow curves and kinetic analysis of beta irradiated YAl3(BO3)4:Tb phosphor

G. Souadi et al.

Summary: By utilizing thermoluminescence (TL), we have conducted a comprehensive investigation on YAl3(BO3)4 host matrices doped with different concentrations of Tb3+, which were prepared through combustion. The TL glow curves, measured under beta ray exposure at varying doses, exhibited four broad peaks located at approximately 76, 126, 230, and 378 degrees Celsius. After 5 Gy beta irradiation, the peak maximum of the 230 degrees Celsius peak shifted towards higher temperatures, while the peak maxima of the other peaks remained almost constant. It is interesting to note that the shift of the 230 degrees Celsius peak towards higher temperatures with increased radiation dose can be attributed to the multi-phase nature of the sample. Additionally, the TL glow curve displayed a proportional increase in intensity with an increase in the heating rate. Possible causes for this pattern were discussed. The observed peaks using the TmTstop method were a result of the presence of a quasi-continuous distribution of traps. The trap parameters were also estimated using various heating rate methods, which displayed excellent agreement with one another.

Characterization, room and low temperature photoluminescence of yttrium aluminium borate activated with Sm3+ions

A. Y. Madkhli et al.

Summary: The combustion method assisted by urea was used to synthesize reddish orange emitting YAl3(BO3)4 phosphor samples doped with various Sm3+ concentrations. The structural and luminescence properties of the synthesized samples were studied in detail. XRD analysis showed a rhombohedral structure with an R32 space group (155), and the particle size was determined to be 48 nm. Visible PL emission spectra under 359 nm excitation exhibited four peaks at 564 nm, 599 nm, 646 nm, and 707 nm, corresponding to transitions 4G5/2 -> 6H5/2, 4G5/2 -> 6H7/2, 4G5/2 -> 6H9/2, and 4G5/2 -> 6H11/2. Concentration quenching was caused by dipole-dipole interactions between neighboring Sm3+ ions. The optimized sample (x = 0.03) showed admirable luminous performance with CIE chroma coordinates (0.606, 0.382). YAl3(BO3)4:Sm3+ can be a good candidate for red component in lighting applications.

Comparison of thermoluminescence characteristics of undoped and europium doped YAl3(BO3)4 phosphor synthesized by combustion method: Anomalous heating rate, dose response and kinetic analyses

Umit H. Kaynar et al.

Summary: In this study, the undoped and Eu3+-doped YAl3(BO3)(4) phosphors were synthesized by a combustion process and characterized using XRD and TL techniques. The XRD analysis confirmed the crystallized structure of the synthesized phosphors. TL measurements showed that the undoped sample exhibited three glow peaks at 80 degrees C, 240 degrees C, and 360 degrees C, while the Eu3+-doped sample showed peaks at 90 degrees C, 230 degrees C, and 390 degrees C. The TL intensity and kinetics were investigated, and the results indicated a non-linear behavior in the Eu3+-doped sample.

Thermoluminescence in GdAl3(BO3)4 phosphors: Unusual heating rate dependencies, dose responses and kinetic parameters

Y. Alajlani et al.

Summary: The current study focuses on the production of GdAl3(BO3)4 (GAB) phosphors using gel combustion and investigates their structural and thermoluminescent (TL) features. The GAB phosphors were found to crystallize in a rhombohedral crystal system. The TL experimental data exhibited an unusual heating rate behavior, which was explained by the semi-localized transition model. The findings suggest that GAB is a potential candidate for radiotherapy dose measurement.

Summary: GdAl3(BO3)4:Dy3+, Sm3+, Eu3+, and Tb3+ samples were successfully prepared via a sol-gel combustion method. The XRD analysis confirmed the formation of the desired GAB host with rhombohedral structures. FTIR analyses detected B -O stretching, B -O -B bending, Al -O bonds, and Gd -O bonds in the phosphor samples. EDS analysis showed successful doping of Sm, Eu, Dy, and Tb into GdAl3(BO3)4. The luminescence properties of rare earth ion-doped GdAl3(BO3)4 samples were analyzed, revealing optimal doping concentrations and critical distances for each ion.

Anomalous heating rate dependence and analyses of thermoluminescence glow curves in Gd doped ZnB2O4 phosphors

S. Atasoz et al.

Summary: In this study, the TL characteristics and trapping parameters of pelletized Gd-incorporated ZnB2O4 synthesized through the gel combustion method were investigated. The XRD results confirmed the chemical composition of the obtained Gd-incorporated ZnB2O4. It was found that the optimal doping concentration of Gd was 0.25 mass%, which resulted in the highest luminous efficiency. The glow curves of the pellet-formed samples exposed to beta-irradiation showed distinct peaks at specific temperatures. The TL glow peaks were studied using various methods, revealing complex glow curves composed of six distinguishable peaks. The results suggest that ZnB2O4:Gd3+ phosphor is a suitable option for radiation dosimetry in environmental monitoring.
