Ionic Liquid Promotes High Dispersion of V2O5 on 3D Porous g-C3N4 Carrier to Enhance Catalytic Oxidative Desulfurization Performance

Suhang Xun et al.

Summary: In this study, supported catalysts V2O5/3D g-C3N4 were prepared using a solvothermal method and programmed calcination, with a vanadium-based ionic liquid (V-IL) [(C8H17)3NCH3]3H3V10O28 as the vanadium source and 3D porous carbon nitride (3D g-C3N4) as the carrier. The use of V-IL promoted the high dispersion of V2O5 on the carrier and effectively avoided agglomeration. As a result, the catalytic oxidative desulfurization activity of V2O5/3D g-C3N4 was greatly enhanced, reducing the content of dibenzothiophene in model oil to 1.2 ppm under appropriate conditions. The recycling capacity and the possible process of oxidative desulfurization were also discussed.

Group IIIA Single-Metal Atoms Anchored on Hexagonal Boron Nitride for Selective Adsorption Desulfurization via S-M Bonds

Hongshun Ran et al.

Summary: In recent years, single-atom adsorbents (SAAs) have attracted extensive research interest as a novel class of adsorption materials with maximized atom utilization and uniform isolated adsorption sites. However, gaining a fundamental understanding of the complex behaviors of SAAs for adsorbing thiophenic compounds (THs) remains challenging. This work systematically investigates the mechanisms of adsorption desulfurization (ADS) over single group IIIA metal atoms (Ga, In, and Tl) anchored on hexagonal boron nitride nanosheets (BNNSs) through density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The results reveal the stabilities, substitution preferences, and enhanced adsorption capacities of SAAs for THs, providing insights for the design and application of SAAs in the field of ADS.

Cu-doped BCN nanofibers for highly selective adsorption desulfurization through S-Cu coordination and π-π interaction

Yuan Zhang et al.

Summary: A series of BCN nanofibers doped with Cu(I) adsorption sites (BCN-Cu-X, X = 0.02, 0.04, 0.06, 0.08 mmol) were successfully fabricated via a simple one-pot pyrolysis method. BCN-Cu-0.04 exhibited significantly higher adsorption capacity for DBT compared to BCN, and also showed high ADS performance for the refractory sulfur compound 4,6-DMDBT. DFT calculations revealed that the enhanced performance of BCN-Cu-X in ADS is attributed to the p-p interaction and newly formed S-Cu coordination bond.

Insights into the formation mechanism of aliphatic acid-choline chloride deep eutectic solvents by theoretical and experimental research

Jinrui Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, seven aliphatic acid-choline chloride deep eutectic solvents (AA-ChCl DESs) were successfully prepared and their formation mechanism was investigated using density functional theory (DFT) calculations and spectroscopy. The liquid formation of the AA-ChCl DESs primarily relies on hydrogen bonding interactions, particularly the O-H···Cl interaction. The strength of the O-H···Cl interaction decreases with increasing alkyl chain length, resulting in a gradual decrease in the formation ability of AA-ChCl DESs. This work provides valuable insights for the design and potential applications of DESs.
