Endophytic Phthalate-degrading Bacillus subtilis N-1-gfp colonizing in soil-crop system shifted indigenous bacterial community to remove di-n-butyl phthalate

Li -Hui Liu et al.

Summary: Endophytic bacteria Bacillus subtilis N-1 can effectively degrade toxic phthalate, and their colonization and function in soil-crop system have been investigated. The inoculated strain N-1-gfp can colonize in soil and rice plant, resulting in a shift in indigenous bacterial community and increased pollutant degradation. Furthermore, strain N-1-gfp displayed strong interaction with indigenous bacteria for accelerating phthalate degradation, reducing phthalate accumulation in plants, and promoting plant growth.

Distinct community assembly processes underlie significant spatiotemporal dynamics of abundant and rare bacterioplankton in the Yangtze River

Malan Yi et al.

Summary: This study investigated the biogeography and community assembly processes of abundant and rare bacterioplankton taxa in the Yangtze River. The results showed similar spatiotemporal patterns between the two taxa, but rare taxa were more influenced by season and landform. Rare taxa correlated with more environmental factors and had a lower proportion of community shifts explained by environmental and spatial factors compared to abundant taxa. The study also revealed that both taxa were mainly governed by stochastic processes, but dispersal limitation played a larger role in determining the abundances of abundant taxa.

Storage Temperature Is More Effective Than Lactic Acid Bacteria Inoculations in Manipulating Fermentation and Bacterial Community Diversity, Co-Occurrence and Functionality of the Whole-Plant Corn Silage

Jie Bai et al.

Summary: The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of different lactic acid bacteria on the fermentation process of whole-plant corn silage stored at different temperatures. The study found that storage temperature had a greater impact on bacterial community and predicted function compared with LAB inoculations. The storage temperature of 30 degrees C decreased bacterial diversity and network complexity of whole-plant corn silage. LP inoculation changed the bacterial community successions during the early and middle ensiling periods, while LB inoculation affected bacterial community successions in the later stage of ensiling.

Small changes in rhizosphere microbiome composition predict disease outcomes earlier than pathogen density variations

Yian Gu et al.

Summary: Even in homogeneous conditions, plants facing a soilborne pathogen tend to show a binary outcome with individuals either remaining fully healthy or developing severe to lethal disease symptoms. This binary outcome may result from an early divergence in the rhizosphere microbiome assembly that may further cascade into varying disease suppression abilities.

Variable influences of soil and seed-associated bacterial communities on the assembly of seedling microbiomes

Corinne M. Walsh et al.

Summary: The microbial communities in distinct soils and seeds have a significant impact on the bacterial community composition of seedlings. The contributions of soil and seed microbiomes to the seedling microbiome are variable and dependent on the specific compositions of the soil and seed microbial communities. Understanding these relationships can help predict how the plant microbiome assembles and how the seedling microbiome can be manipulated to improve plant health.

Rhizosphere microbiome assembly involves seed-borne bacteria in compensatory phosphate solubilization

Jiahui Shao et al.

Summary: The soil microbiome plays a dominant role in the assembly of the rhizosphere microbiome, while the seed-borne beneficial bacterium Burkholderia gladioli colonizes the rhizosphere in high relative abundance, significantly altering its assembly. This seed-borne beneficial bacterial species may contain extracellular phosphatase-encoding genes, which facilitate functional compensation to promote phosphorus acquisition by the host plant.

Seasonal dynamics of the microbial community in two full-scale wastewater treatment plants: Diversity, composition, phylogenetic group based assembly and co-occurrence pattern

Chenxiang Sun et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the seasonal dynamics of microbial communities in wastewater treatment plants, finding that microbial diversity and composition in influent fluctuated significantly, while those in activated sludge remained relatively stable throughout the year. Nitrospira were more susceptible to stochastic processes in winter, possibly explaining nitrification failure during that season. Network analysis indicated that the network structure of the activated sludge community was more stable in summer and autumn, and keystone taxa varied in different networks, supporting the context dependency theory.

Strategies and Structure Feature of the Aboveground and Belowground Microbial Community Respond to Drought in Wild Rice (Oryza longistaminata)

Jian Xie et al.

Summary: Drought negatively affected the diversity and stability of leaf and stem microbial communities, while it had a smaller impact on root and rhizosphere communities. The belowground microbial network showed closer interconnections among drought-negative response taxa, contributing to network stability. Drought induced enrichment of Actinobacteria in belowground compartments and increased the proportion of specialists in all compartments. Overall, the assembly of above and belowground microbial communities was primarily governed by stochastic processes under drought stress.
