Platinum(IV) Complexes with Tridentate, NNC-Coordinating Ligands: Synthesis, Structures, and Luminescence

Yana M. Dikova et al.

Summary: Platinum(II) complexes of NNC-cyclometalating ligands based on 6-phenyl-2,2 '-bipyridine (HL1) have been extensively studied for their luminescence properties. Oxidation of PtL1Cl and its analogues with differently substituted aryl rings, PtL2-6Cl, by chlorine and/or iodobenzene dichloride generates Pt(IV) compounds of the form Pt(NNC-Ln)Cl3 (n = 1-6). These PtLnCl3 compounds react with 2-arylpyridines to form a new class of Pt(IV) complexes [Pt(NNC)(NC)Cl]+. The UV-vis absorption spectra and phosphorescence properties of these complexes are affected by the electron richness of the aryl ring.

Phosphorescent 2-phenylbenzothiazole PtIV bis-cyclometalated complexes with phenanthroline-based ligands

Andrea Corral-Zorzano et al.

Summary: We have investigated a range of dicationic heteroleptic complexes with two cyclometalating 2-phenylbenzothiazole (pbt) groups and a phenanthroline-based ligand. The photophysical and electrochemical properties of these complexes were studied, and different emissive states were observed depending on the medium and excitation wavelength. Theoretical calculations supported these findings and provided insights into the luminescence of these PtIV complexes.

Visible light-induced Ni-catalyzed C-heteroatom cross-coupling of aryl halides via LMCT with DBU to access a Ni(i)/Ni(iii) cycle

Rui Li et al.

Summary: A highly efficient photoinduced nickel-catalyzed method for the C-heteroatom cross-coupling of aryl halides is reported. This method does not require external photosensitizers and can successfully couple various nucleophiles with electronically diverse aryl halides, providing a universal approach for different C-heteroatom coupling reactions.

Strongly Luminescent Pt(IV) Complexes with a Mesoionic N-Heterocyclic Carbene Ligand: Tuning Their Photophysical Properties

Angela Vivancos et al.

Summary: A series of bis-cyclometalated Pt(IV) complexes incorporating mesoionic aryl-NHC ligand trz with either 1-phenylpyrazole or 2-arylpyridine ligands are reported, showing phosphorescent emissions in the blue to yellow color range with high quantum yields. The addition of trz ligand leads to lower nonradiative decay rates and higher quantum efficiencies compared to homologous species with two equal 2-arylpyridine ligands. Computational calculations substantiate the effect of the carbene ligand on the energy levels and emissive properties of the complexes.

Luminescent halido(aryl) Pt(iv) complexes obtained via oxidative addition of iodobenzene or diaryliodonium salts to bis-cyclometalated Pt(ii) precursors

Juan-Carlos Lopez-Lopez et al.

Summary: The synthesis and photophysical properties of bis-cyclometalated halido(aryl) Pt(iv) complexes are reported. The introduction of aryl ligands through different methods and the comparison of chlorido and fluorido derivatives in terms of emission lifetimes and radiative rate constants are discussed. The study also highlights the role of radical species in the activation of solvents during the oxidative addition reaction.
