Saturated Fatty Acid Chain Length and Risk of Cardiovascular Disease: A Systematic Review

Monica Perna et al.

Summary: The purpose of this systematic review is to assess the impact of saturated fatty acid chain lengths on cardiovascular disease (CVD) development and explore the importance of replacement macronutrients. Relevant prospective cohort studies measuring SFA chain length were searched through various databases. The findings suggest that long-chain saturated fatty acid intake is associated with increased CVD risk, while short- and medium-chain saturated fatty acids have a neutral or potentially beneficial effect.

Association between Macronutrient and Fatty Acid Consumption and Metabolic Syndrome: A South African Taxi Driver Survey

Machoene Derrick Sekgala et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the association between macronutrient and fatty acid intake and metabolic syndrome and its components in South African male mini-bus taxi drivers. The findings suggest that a diet high in protein, carbohydrates, and polyunsaturated fatty acids can reduce triglycerides and blood pressure, while the intake of total fat and saturated fatty acids has the opposite effect.

Nutrition and physical activity interventions for the general population with and without cardiometabolic risk: a scoping review

Mary Rozga et al.

Summary: This scoping review aimed to examine interventions to improve or maintain nutrition and physical activity-related outcomes in adults with or without cardiometabolic risk. It identified a wide range of literature, including recent studies on mobile applications and ergogenic aids. While there is abundant research on individual-level counseling or coaching from dietitians/nutritionists and exercise practitioners, the need for systematic reviews on these interventions is highlighted for informing practice.
