Regulating CeO2 morphologies on the catalytic oxidation of toluene at lower temperature: A study of the structure-activity relationship

Youcai Zhu et al.

Summary: Developing efficient and stable non-noble metal catalysts for VOCs oxidation is crucial in controlling air pollution. In this study, different morphologies of CeO2 catalysts were prepared and the CeO2 nanoparticles exhibited the highest efficiency, water resistance, stability, and regeneration ability. In situ DRIFTS combined with DFT were used to understand the oxidation behavior of toluene over the CeO2 nanoparticles catalyst, and it was found that the ring-opening reaction is a rate-controlling step. This study provides a new strategy for exploring high-performance catalysts for VOCs oxidation and other pollutant treatments.

Reinforced Photogenerated Electrons in Few-Layer C3N5 for Enhanced Catalytic NO Oxidation and CO2 Reduction

Junlei Zhang et al.

Summary: This study reports on few-layer C3N5 with a thickness of around 1.2nm as a case study, showing significantly increased photogenerated carriers dynamics proven by transient diffuse reflectance spectra. Density functional theory calculations further confirm the superior adsorption and activation of small molecules over few-layer C3N5. These unique properties endow few-layer C3N5 with enhanced photocatalytic capability in air NO oxidation and CO2 reduction compared to bulk C3N5 and traditional C3N4. This work contributes to the development of efficient 2D metal-free catalysts for photocatalytic applications.

Jing Li et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel photothermal catalyst, Au/VO2/CeO2 (AVO/CeO2), was designed for the selective oxidation of aromatic alcohols to aromatic aldehydes. The optimized 10% A(0.1%)VO/CeO2 (0.1% Au/VO2 denoted as A(0.1%)VO) showed a yield up to 2726.92 mu mol/g/h and a selectivity over 99% under atmospheric pressure. A possible photothermal synergistic catalysis mechanism was proposed based on the physical and chemical characterizations and theoretical calculation results.

Adsorption, thermal conversion, and catalytic hydrogenation of acrolein on Cu surfaces

Mindika Tilan Nayakasinghe et al.

Summary: The adsorption, thermal chemistry, and catalytic hydrogenation of acrolein on copper model surfaces were studied using surface-science techniques, quantum mechanics calculations, and catalytic kinetic measurements. The adsorption process involved the carbonyl oxygen atom and the C=C bond, and thermal activation resulted in the production of ketene and propene. Hydrogenation was not possible under vacuum, but multiple hydrogenation products were detected after surface pre-dosing with atomic hydrogen. Catalytic hydrogenation under atmospheric pressures was slow.

Green synthesis of Tungsten-doped CeO2 catalyst for selective catalytic reduction of NOx with NH3 using starch bio-template

Zhi-bo Xiong et al.

Summary: A novel tungsten-doped CeO2 catalyst was fabricated using sweet potato starch as a bio-template via the spread self-combustion (SSC) method. The doping of tungsten refines the pore diameter of CeO2 and restrains the growth of cubic CeO2 crystal. However, annealing at 700 degrees C promotes the growth of cubic CeO2 crystal and the formation of Ce4W9O33 crystal, instead of amorphous tungsten species, compared to catalyst calcined at 550 degrees C. Additionally, it was found that the doping of tungsten increases the concentration of adsorbed oxygen on the surface of CeO2-550 and enhances the reducibility of the surface oxygen, ultimately affecting the catalytic performance.

CeO2/Ce2O3 quantum dot decorated reduced graphene oxide nanohybrid as electrode for supercapacitor

N. Chakrabarty et al.

Summary: A simple hydrothermal method was used to synthesize CeO2/Ce2O3 quantum dots anchored on reduced graphene oxide (RGO) sheets for supercapacitor electrode applications. The optimized weight fraction of RGO in the CRGO3 electrode showed the highest specific capacitance and good cycling stability at different current densities, indicating potential use in supercapacitors. High resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis confirmed the presence of well crystalline CeO2 nanoparticles and Ce2O3 mixed oxides on the RGO sheets, contributing to the enhanced electrocatalytic activity and performance of the electrode.
