Effects of additives on the co-composting of forest residues with cattle manure

Xiaoyu Liu et al.

Summary: The addition of 10% pumice resulted in the highest quality compost in the co-composting of forest residues and cattle manure. The inclusion of pumice increased the organic matter degradation rate, nitrate-N, available phosphorus, and available potassium content, as well as the relative abundance of bacteria involved in lignocellulose degradation and N transformation. With the addition of pumice, a high quality compost product was obtained in just 39 days.

Optimization of composting methods for efficient use of cassava waste, using microbial degradation

Xiangning He et al.

Summary: With the recent revolution in the green economy, the utilization of agricultural solid waste resources has become an important project. A small-scale laboratory experiment was conducted to study the effects of C/N ratio, initial moisture content, and fill ratio on the compost maturity of cassava residue. The results showed that C/N ratio and moisture content significantly affected the composting process, while fill ratio only had a significant impact on pH value and phosphorus content. Based on comprehensive analysis, the recommended process parameters for pure cassava residue composting were determined.

Distinctive Features of Composts of Different Origin: A Thorough Examination of the Characterization Results

Ana Catarina Silva et al.

Summary: This study compares the characteristics of seven composts produced from different raw materials and composting methodologies, and explores their potential in agriculture. Although the organic matter stabilization in these composts is suitable for agricultural applications, they exhibit distinct elemental and structural compositions. Additionally, different fertilizers have varying effects on lettuce growth. Some common features were identified, such as mass loss, associations between groups of elements, and correlations between carbon nanostructures and aromaticity parameters.

Mingzi Shi et al.

Summary: This study found that under the condition of nitrate addition, functional microbes involved in the aromatic compound degradation pathways were significantly enriched and had a negative correlation with aromatic humic substances. Microbial communities showed a preference for cooperation with aromatic-ring cleavage functional microbes. The composting microenvironment drove the activities of aromatic-ring cleavage functional microbes, leading to the biodegradation of complex aromatic compounds.
