Physiological and transcriptome analysis of response of soybean (Glycine max) to cadmium stress under elevated CO2 concentration

Zehua Gong et al.

Summary: Elevated CO2 concentration can alleviate Cd toxicity in soybean by promoting root and leaf growth, enhancing the accumulation of proline, soluble sugars, and flavonoids, and boosting GSH activity and GST gene expressions for Cd detoxification. Up-regulation of genes involved in transportation and compartmentalization of Cd and changes in MAPK and transcription factors expressions might be involved in mediating stress response.

Integration of transcriptome and metabolome analyses reveals sorghum roots responding to cadmium stress through regulation of the flavonoid biosynthesis pathway

Zhiyin Jiao et al.

Summary: Cadmium pollution poses a serious threat to plant growth and human health, but the mechanisms underlying the response in Sorghum plants are still unknown. This study exposed one-week-old Sorghum seedlings to different concentrations of CdCl2 and found that Cd stress inhibited plant height, lateral root density, and biomass production. Further analysis revealed that the flavonoid biosynthesis pathway plays a critical role in regulating Cd stress responses in Sorghum. These findings provide new insights into the Cd response mechanism in Sorghum.

Integrated mRNA and miRNA omics reveal the regulatory role of UV-B radiation in active ingredient biosynthesis of Chrysanthemum morifolium Ramat

Yanjun Yang et al.

Summary: Ultraviolet-B (UV-B) is an effective elicitor that enhances bioactive ingredient biosynthesis in Chrysanthemum morifolium. High-throughput sequencing technologies were used to identify UV-B responsive mRNAs and miRNAs in the inflorescences. The study found that many UV-B responsive genes are involved in flavonoid, unsaturated fatty acid, phenylpropanoid, and carotenoid biosynthesis pathways. Additionally, several miRNAs were identified to regulate active ingredient and flavonoid biosynthesis by targeting specific genes. This research provides valuable insights into the molecular mechanisms of UV-B-induced bioactive ingredient accumulation in C. morifolium inflorescences.

Investigation of the role of TmMYB16/123 and their targets (TmMTP1/11) in the tolerance of Taxus media to cadmium

Shangguo Feng et al.

Summary: The toxicity and stress caused by heavy metal contamination have a great impact on the growth and survival of trees, especially species belonging to the genus Taxus, which are highly sensitive to changes in the environment. This study analyzed the transcriptomic profiles of Taxus media trees exposed to cadmium (Cd2+) to investigate their response to heavy metal stress. Several metal tolerance protein (MTP) genes, including Cd2+ stress-inducible TMP genes (TmMTP1, TmMTP11), were identified in T. media. Through further analysis, it was found that TmMTP1/11 may regulate the accumulation of Cd2+ in cells. In addition, two Cd2+-induced R2R3-MYB TFs, TmMYB16 and TmMYB123, were identified, and they play a role in Cd2+ tolerance by regulating the expression of TmMTP1/11 genes. Overall, this study provides insights into the regulatory mechanisms of Taxus spp. in response to Cd stress and contributes to the breeding of environmentally adaptable Taxus species.

Transcriptional, secondary metabolic, and antioxidative investigations elucidate the rapid response mechanism of Pontederia cordata to cadmium

Jianpan Xin et al.

Summary: Pontederia cordata has been shown to be tolerant to Cd exposure and can maintain favorable photosynthetic processes and antioxidant activity under short-term Cd exposure. However, prolonged exposure to Cd can lead to membrane peroxidation and decreased photosynthetic pigment content. The phenyl-propane pathway in plant leaves plays a crucial role in defense against Cd stress.
