Assessment of ultrasound shear wave elastography within muscles using different region of interest sizes, manufacturers, probes and acquisition angles: an ex vivo study

Xiuming Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of machines, probes, ROI sizes, and acquisition angles on muscle shear wave speed (SWS) in the musculoskeletal system. The results suggest that different machines and acquisition angles can lead to SWS differences, while probes and ROI sizes do not significantly affect SWS values. The reliability of measurements is limited by the choice of acquisition angles.

Limitations of Muscle Ultrasound Shear Wave Elastography for Clinical Routine-Positioning and Muscle Selection

Alyssa Romano et al.

Summary: This study analyzed data from 52 healthy volunteers to reveal the variability of SWE measurements in different muscles, compare the trade-offs between different limb positioning protocols, and provide SWE reference values for specific ultrasound machine/transducer setups. The study suggests that current methodological issues limit the clinical applicability of muscle SWE.
