Self-powered solar-blind UV photodetectors based on Zn:NiO/p-Si heterojunction devices

Miquel Angel Coll-Ramis et al.

Summary: Pristine and zinc-doped nickel oxide isotype heterojunction devices were fabricated on p-type silicon substrates using the sol-gel spin coating deposition technique. Structural, composition, defect state, and phase analyses were performed using X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy techniques. The non-linear current-voltage characteristics of the devices showed diodic behavior. Incorporating Zn2+ in NiO significantly improved the UV photodetection behavior, with the largest photoresponse observed for 15% Zn2+ molar concentration.

Nanoengineering of ZnCo2O4@CoMoO4 heterogeneous structures for supercapacitor and water splitting applications

Wen-Duo Yang et al.

Summary: A hybrid ZnCo2O4@CoMoO4 heterogeneous structure was synthesized by a two-step hydrothermal process deposited onto nickel foam. The hybrid architecture showed excellent electrochemical performance, including a specific capacitance of 1040C g-1 at 1 A g-1, a high energy density of 87.3 Wh kg-1 at a power density of 2700 W kg-1 for an as-assembled supercapacitor, and excellent cycle stability with a capacity retention of 99% after 8000 charge-discharge cycles. It also exhibited favorable electrocatalytic activity with low overpotentials for oxygen and hydrogen evolution reactions, as well as low cell voltage for overall water splitting. The stability of the structure was maintained for 13 hours of long-term use. This hybrid structure holds great promise for future energy storage and conversion.
