Towards solvothermal upcycling of mixed plastic wastes: Depolymerization pathways of waste plastics in sub- and supercritical toluene

Nepu Saha et al.

Summary: The study explored how using toluene as a solvent in a one-step STL process can effectively degrade hard-to-recycle waste plastics (#5-#7), with the STL conversion rate increasing with reaction temperature and time. Elemental analysis predicted that the higher heating values of the crude products ranged between 30 and 45 MJ/kg. Boiling point distribution showed a significant increase in the production of lower hydrocarbons (C-8-C-20) from 10% at 300 degrees C to 80% at 400 degrees C.

Effects of Cd and Sn modified MCM-41 on pyrolysis of cellulose

Zhijie Song et al.

Summary: This study investigated the catalytic effects of Cd-MCM-41 and Sn-MCM-41 on the pyrolysis of cellulose. It was found that Cd-MCM-41 produced more 5-hydroxymethylfurfural, while Sn-MCM-41 promoted the formation of glycolaldehyde and a limited amount of other compounds. With increasing pyrolysis temperature, the content of most small-molecule chemicals in the products increased by 1.8-4.1 times.

Catalytic pyrolysis of linear low-density polyethylene using recycled coal ash: Kinetic study and environmental evaluation

Jianchen Lai et al.

Summary: The study showed that using 15 wt% bottom ash in LLDPE pyrolysis has higher catalytic activity, reducing activation energy and increasing alicyclic hydrocarbon yield. Life cycle assessment revealed that the lowest environmental impact was seen in LLDPE pyrolysis with 15 wt% bottom ash, indicating that recycling coal ash as catalysts for LLDPE pyrolysis is effective.
