Effects of Dietary Indole-3-carboxaldehyde Supplementation on Growth Performance, Intestinal Epithelial Function, and Intestinal Microbial Composition in Weaned Piglets

Ruofan Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the role of microbial metabolite indole-3-carboxaldehyde (ICA) in modulating intestinal homeostasis using a weaned pig model. The results showed that ICA supplementation did not affect the average daily gain and average daily feed intake of weaned piglets, but improved the feed to gain ratio. ICA treatment increased the intestinal indexes and the expression of genes associated with intestinal epithelial proliferation. Moreover, dietary ICA supplementation also modulated the abundance and diversity of intestinal flora.

Lysolecithin Improves Broiler Growth Performance through Upregulating Growth-Related Genes and Nutrient Transporter Genes Expression Independent of Experimental Diet Nutrition Level

Zhiming Zhang et al.

Summary: Lysolecithin, a commonly used emulsifier in the feed industry, has been shown to improve the growth performance of farm animals. This study investigated the mechanism of action of lysolecithin and found that it upregulates the expression of nutrient transporter genes and growth-related genes in animals, leading to enhanced growth performance.

Effects of dietary lysolecithin on growth performance, serum biochemical indexes, antioxidant capacity, lipid metabolism and inflammation-related genes expression of juvenile large yellow croaker (Larimichthys crocea)

Miao Weng et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of dietary lysolecithin on the growth performance, serum biochemical indexes, antioxidant capacity, lipid metabolism, and inflammation-related genes expression of juvenile large yellow croaker. The results showed that lysolecithin supplementation improved the growth performance and lipid metabolism of the fish. It also regulated inflammation response and had optimal effects at a supplementation level of approximately 0.4%.

The differences in energy metabolism and redox status between sows with short and long farrowing duration

Yang Liu et al.

Summary: Farrowing duration is a critical factor affecting piglet survival and sow health, with shorter farrowing duration sows showing higher blood glucose and lower lactate concentrations, but higher malondialdehyde concentration. Additionally, sows with shorter farrowing duration had a shorter time from last meal to farrowing initiation, and tended to have lower stillbirth and higher survival rates.

Facile and sensitive measurement of GSH/GSSG in cells by surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy

Yingjie Zhu et al.

Summary: This paper presents a novel and sensitive method for monitoring intracellular GSH and GSSG concentrations using surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). By introducing a reduction-sensitive reaction-type Raman probe, the method allows for quantitative measurement of GSH and GSSG with high sensitivity. The SERS method proves to be feasible in rapidly and sensitively monitoring GSH depletion behaviors and may be valuable in cellular detoxication events involving GSH.

Effects of tris (2-carboxyethyl) phosphine hydrochloride treatment on porcine oocyte in vitro maturation and subsequent in vitro fertilized embryo developmental capacity

Yiren Zeng et al.

Summary: The study found that treatment with 100 μM TCEP-HCL significantly improved the quality and developmental capacity of porcine oocytes, including increased first polar body extrusion rate and monospermy rate, as well as enhanced cleavage rate, blastocyst formation rate, and blastocyst total cell number of in vitro-fertilized embryos. This improvement was associated with reduced oxidative stress, increased glutathione levels, and mitochondrial content in the oocytes, as well as decreased oocyte and blastocyst apoptosis.

Fibroblast growth factor 21 attenuates iron overload-induced liver injury and fibrosis by inhibiting ferroptosis

Aimin Wu et al.

Summary: Iron overload-induced ferroptosis in hepatocytes is promoted by excessive HO-1 expression, while FGF21 protein can protect against this process by inhibiting ferroptosis and preventing liver damage. These findings suggest that activating FGF21 could be an effective strategy for potential treatment of iron overload-induced ferroptosis-related diseases like hereditary haemochromatosis.

Xie Peng et al.

Summary: The study found that dietary supplementation of melatonin during pregnancy can increase placental weight, reduce the proportion of piglets born with lower birth weight, and improve maternal-placental-fetal redox status and reproductive performance. Additionally, dietary melatonin can enhance placental antioxidant status, inflammatory response, and mitochondrial function.
