Summary: This paper investigates the constant-modulus (CM) waveform design for dual-function radar communication systems in the presence of clutter. The signal-to-interference-plus-noise-ratio is used as the design metric to minimize interference power and enhance target acquisition performance. A constraint on the synthesis error of communication signals is enforced to ensure quality of service for each user. An iterative algorithm based on cyclic optimization, Dinkinbach's transform, and alternating direction of method of multipliers is proposed to solve the encountered nonconvex optimization problem. Simulation results show that the CM waveforms synthesized by the proposed algorithm efficiently suppress clutter and control synthesis error of communication signals at a low level.

Summary: This paper proposes a novel integrated sensing and communications scheme for massive MIMO systems to improve transmission rates and sensing accuracy. By leveraging the beam-squint and beam-split effects, the performance issues caused by antenna array size and transmission bandwidth can be addressed. The proposed method operates in the frequency domain and significantly reduces the time overhead compared to conventional sensing schemes, while expanding the sensing range through the beam-split effect.

Summary: In conventional joint communications and sensing designs, the optimization of dual-functional waveforms for the whole frequency band often hinders the performance tradeoff between communications and sensing. To overcome this limitation, we propose a scheme where a subset of subcarriers is used for joint communications and sensing, while communications are performed over all subcarriers. By optimizing the beamformers and JCAS subcarriers, the rate maximization under sensing accuracy constraint is achieved. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed scheme significantly improves the achievable communications rate while maintaining the quality of the sensing beampattern.

Summary: This study investigates hybrid beamforming for mmWave MIMO integrated sensing and communications, focusing on designing the transmit beam of a DFRC base station while considering various constraints. By introducing a phase vector and using an alternating minimization method, the beam design is optimized, leading to the determination of analog and digital beamformers based on constant envelop constraint. Simulation results suggest that larger antenna arrays can achieve better radar beam quality under the same SINR constraint for communication users.

Summary: This paper investigates hybrid analog-digital beamforming architectures for uplink cell-free millimeter-wave massive MIMO systems and proposes two HBF schemes, namely decentralized HBF (D-HBF) and semi-centralized HBF (SC-HBF). It is shown that the analog beamformers generated in these two schemes provide approximately the same achievable rates, despite the lower complexity and lack of CSI requirement of D-HBF. Furthermore, a novel adaptive RF chain-activation scheme is proposed to reduce power consumption while achieving significant improvement in energy efficiency.

Summary: This paper introduces the optimization problem of array gain in terahertz (THz) communication using massive MIMO and hybrid precoding technology. The authors propose a new precoding architecture called delay-phase precoding (DPP) to mitigate the beam split effect caused by the large bandwidth and large number of antennas in THz massive MIMO. The proposed DPP introduces a time delay network to realize frequency-dependent phase shifts, which can generate frequency-dependent beams towards the target direction across the entire bandwidth. Theoretical analysis and simulations show that the proposed DPP can effectively mitigate the beam split effect and achieve near-optimal rate with higher energy efficiency.

Summary: Hybrid beamforming is a promising technology to improve the energy efficiency of massive MIMO systems. Subarray hybrid beamforming, in particular, can further reduce power consumption by reducing the number of phase-shifters. However, designing the hybrid beamforming vectors is complex due to the discrete nature of subarray connections and phase-shift amounts. Therefore, we propose a novel unsupervised learning approach to address this problem.
