Monitoring thiophenols in both environmental water samples and bio-samples: A method based on a fluorescent probe with broad pH adaptation

Junyan Ma et al.

Summary: A novel probe based on intramolecular charge transfer mechanism was presented for the rapid, selective and sensitive detection of highly toxic thiophenols in both environmental and biological systems. The probe exhibited rapid response, broad pH adaptation, high selectivity, large Stokes shift and fluorescence enhancement. It showed low toxicity towards human cells and could be used for detecting thiophenols in living cells, zebrafish and environmental water samples with good recovery.

Fluorescence probe for selectively monitoring biothiols within cells and mouse depression diagnosis

Junyan Ma et al.

Summary: Depression, a global mental disorder, is linked to oxidative stress in the brain. Cysteine, as a reductive biothiol, plays a role in regulating oxidative conditions in various biological events, including tissue stress. Despite the ongoing challenge of exploring the pathology and physiology of depression, the development of a new method for tracking cysteine levels without interference from other substances is of great significance. In this study, a fluorescence probe has been developed that can selectively detect cysteine over other biothiols. The probe has shown promising performance in cellular applications and mouse brain, providing a new method for cysteine imaging and understanding the pathogenesis of depression. The researchers hope that this work can be applied as a potential chemical approach for diagnosing cysteine-associated diseases in clinical settings.

Synthesis of Dihydroquinolines as Scaffolds for Fluorescence Sensing of Hydroxyl Radical

Yalan Wu et al.

Summary: A mild synthetic method has been presented for preparing dihydroquinolines which have shown great potential for fluorescence detection of biorelevant hydroxyl radicals (center dot OH). One of the synthetic dihydroquinolines has been demonstrated to enable sensitive and selective detection of center dot OH and intracellular organelle-targeted fluorescence imaging. Dihydroquinoline also exhibits promising potential for constructing advanced fluorescence probes for center dot OH with tunable photophysical properties.
