Ultrasonic-based surface patterning and interfacial reaction of ZrO2 ceramics

H. J. Dong et al.

Summary: Selective surface metallization of ZrO2 ceramics was achieved using ultrasound technology, allowing for rapid and reliable connections with other metals and ceramic materials. The Sn-2Ti alloy effectively wet and spread on the ZrO2 substrate under ultrasound, creating continuous interphase layers. The bonding strength of the ZrO2/Sn-2Ti interface was well established with a shear strength of 37.1 MPa, and prolonged sonication resulted in thickening of the interfacial reaction layer and the formation of Ti11.31Sn3O10 nanocrystals.

Summary: This study investigated the soldering of Al/Mg dissimilar metals using Sn-9Zn solder at a low temperature. A liquid gallium layer was applied to the faying surface to prevent oxidation and contact between Mg and the Sn-based filler metal. The growth and distribution of intermetallic compounds at the Mg/solder interface were studied.

On the governing fragmentation mechanism of primary intermetallics by induced cavitation

Abhinav Priyadarshi et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the fragmentation process of primary Al3Zr intermetallics in aluminium alloys using nano-indentation experiments and high-speed imaging. Results showed that the fragmentation mechanism was mainly caused by shock waves emitted from collapsing bubbles. Instantaneous fragmentation was observed from single bubble collapse, while sono-fragmentation led to fatigue loading and eventual brittle failure due to propagating shock waves.

Brazing of tungsten heavy alloy and Fe-Ni-Co based superalloy by a novel Cu-Ti based amorphous filler

Yuxin Xu et al.

Summary: Cu-Ti based amorphous fillers were designed to facilitate the joining of tungsten heavy alloy (WHA) and Fe-Ni-Co based superalloy (GH907), resulting in superior wettability and strength. Typical microstructures of brazed joints were identified, with a maximum joint shear strength of 340 MPa achieved at 1050 degrees C for 10 minutes, highlighting effective joining mechanisms involving diffusion-reaction behavior and dissolution-dilution effect.
