Crystallite size-dependent magnetic moment in hydrogen bridged manganese tetracyanonickelate based two-dimensional metal-organic frameworks

Md Abdul Halim et al.

Summary: Two-dimensional metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) consist of organic cyanide ligands and metal cyanometallates. They show great potential as molecular magnets in a wide temperature range. The tunable magnetic properties of these complexes are highly desired due to their unique structural features and the ability to be influenced by external stimuli. In this study, tetracyanonickellate-based MOFs (Mn-MOF) with a layered structure were synthesized using tri-sodium citrate dihydrate as a chelating agent. The spontaneous magnetism, as well as the effect of crystallite size and morphology on magnetic susceptibility, were investigated. The magnetic interaction between the metal ions occurs in-plane and out-of-plane through hydrogen bonding bridges. Vibrating Sample Magnetometry and Curie-Weiss mean field theory were used to measure and calculate the magnetic properties and Curie temperatures. The MOFs exhibited paramagnetic behavior at temperatures above 50 K, with a paramagnetic to weak ferromagnetic transition below 50 K. The magnetic ordering temperature showed a field-dependent response, and the magnetic exchange coupling increased with the hydrogen bonding network.

Design and fabrication of a bimodal emitting phosphor by co-doping two different activators for high sensitivity temperature sensing

Wen Liu et al.

Summary: Designing phosphors with multi-emission peaks and incongruent temperature response is important for high-efficiency optic fluorescence temperature sensors. In this study, Mn4+ and Dy3+ were co-doped into the host lattice Ca2InSbO6 (CIS) to achieve bimodal emission fluorescence intensity ratio (FIR) thermometry. The Dy3+ luminescence is insensitive to temperature, while the Mn4+ luminescence is sensitive. By utilizing the inconsistent temperature dependency of CIS:Mn4+/Dy3+, high absolute sensitivity (Sa) of 9.10% K-1 at 573 K and relative sensitivity (Sr) of 2.16% K-1 at 498 K were realized.
