Coupled interaction between acoustics and unsteady flame dynamics during the transition to thermoacoustic instability in a multi-element rocket combustor

Praveen Kasthuri et al.

Summary: This study investigates the coupled interaction between acoustic pressure and heat release rate in a rocket engine combustor, and demonstrates the emergence of synchronization and changes in CH * intensity. The interaction between jet flames and shock waves, as well as the transition in oscillation nature, are also analyzed.

Effect of biogas addition on combustion instability of propane flame at different external acoustic enforcement frequencies

Bugrahan Alabas

Summary: This study investigated the effect of adding biogas to a propane flame on combustion instability and luminous intensity. The results showed that the addition of biogas suppressed the combustion instabilities of the propane flame and increased the brightness of the flame.

Experimental study on structure and blow-off characteristics of NH3/CH4 co-firing flames in a swirl combustor

Longjuan Ji et al.

Summary: This study investigated the experimental study of unconfined lean premixed NH3/CH4/air flames and found that adding CH4 fuel can improve flame speed and stability, resulting in a wider flame range. However, excessive stretching is the key factor for flame blow-off.

Effect of confinement ratio on flame structure and blow-off characteristics of swirl flames

Longjuan Ji et al.

Summary: This study experimentally investigated the blow-off and flame macrostructure transition behavior of unconfined and confined premixed CH4/air flames. The results showed that the combustor confinement could significantly broaden the blow-off limits. The influence of confinement ratio (CR) on flame stabilization was revealed by analyzing flame structures and flow fields. The transition from stable to unstable was extended by increasing the CR in the confined combustor.

Bifurcation analysis of combustion instability in a Rijke burner with an improved third-order saturated flame model

Nannan Dang et al.

Summary: This study numerically investigates the bifurcation analysis of nonlinear combustion instability in a Rijke burner. Novel flame models, including a saturated flame model and a third-order saturated flame model, are proposed and analyzed in terms of their effects on system eigenvalues. The bifurcation analysis on the flame location, average flame intensity, damping, and time delay reveals distinct characteristics for each flame model. Furthermore, the study explores the effects of velocity perturbations on system oscillations, emphasizing the significance of the nonlinear term in the flame model for the combustion system's transition to instability.

Experimental investigations of equivalence ratio effect on nonlinear dynamics features in premixed swirl-stabilized combustor

Zhuming Rao et al.

Summary: In this study, the dynamics of pressure oscillations and flame behaviors in a premixed swirl-stabilized combustor were experimentally investigated. Different combustion states were distinguished based on acoustic pressures and flame dynamics. The use of permutation entropy and proper orthogonal decomposition proved effective in analyzing signal complexities and spatial images of chemiluminescence.

Effect of high hydrogen enrichment on the outer-shear-layer flame of confined lean premixed CH4/H2/air swirl flames

Runze Mao et al.

Summary: This study investigated the transition of confined swirl flames from V to M shape induced by H-2. By observing the flame structures and flow fields, it was found that with increasing H2 content, the flame tip moved upstream in the outer shear layer, leading to the transition from V to M shape. The study provides insights into recirculation-stabilized swirling flames with strong confinement and has implications for model validation of flames with high H2 content.
