Multicomponent Sulfonylation of Alkenes to Access beta-Substituted Arylsulfones

Kai-Yi Zhang et al.

Summary: A novel multicomponent sulfonylation of alkenes using cheap and easily available K2S2O5 as a sulfur dioxide source is described. The procedure does not require any extra oxidants and metal catalysts and shows a wide substrate scope and good functional group compatibility. Mechanistically, an initial arylsulfonyl radical is formed through the insertion of sulfur dioxide with aryl diazonium salt, followed by alkoxyarylsulfonylation or hydroxysulfonylation of alkenes.

Recent Advances in N-O Bond Cleavage of Oximes and Hydroxylamines to Construct N-Heterocycle

Hui-Min Jiang et al.

Summary: This article summarizes the importance of oximes and hydroxylamines as a class of skeletons, which not only widely exist in natural products and drug molecules, but also serve as synthons extensively used in industrial production. Due to the weak N-O sigma bonds of oximes and hydroxylamines, they can be easily transformed into other functional groups by N-O bond cleavage. Therefore, the synthesis of N-heterocycle using oximes and hydroxylamines as nitrogen sources has attracted wide attention.

Catalytic Reduction of Oximes to Hydroxylamines: Current Methods, Challenges and Opportunities

Josep Mas-Rosello et al.

Summary: Catalytic reduction of oximes is an efficient method for synthesizing valuable hydroxylamine derivatives, but faces challenges such as the difficulty of reducing oximes and the complexity of their reactivity. Recent developments have focused on metal-free and transition-metal-based homogeneous catalysts with higher turnovers, yet issues with stereoselectivity and substrate preparation remain to be addressed.

Hidden Reactivity of Barbituric and Meldrum's Acids: Atom-Efficient Free-Radical C-O Coupling with N -Hydroxy Compounds

Igor B. Krylov et al.

Summary: The reactivity of CH-acidic and structurally related enol-containing heterocycles towards N-oxyl radicals was investigated, showing high affinity between these substrates. Highly selective and efficient N-oxyl radical mediated C-O coupling of substituted barbituric or Meldrum's acids with N-hydroxy compounds was achieved using inexpensive manganese-containing salts as oxidants. Metal-free C-O coupling was demonstrated using diacetyliminoxyl as both the oxidant and the coupling partner.

Modular Difunctionalization of Unactivated Alkenes through Bio- Inspired Radical Ligand Transfer Catalysis

Kang-Jie Bian et al.

Summary: Development of visible light-mediated atom transfer radical addition of haloalkanes onto unsaturated hydrocarbons has seen rapid growth in recent years. However, due to its radical chain propagation mechanism, diverse functionality other than the pre-existing (pseudo-)halide on the alkyl halide source cannot be incorporated into target molecules in a one-step, economic fashion. Inspired by the prominent reactivities shown by cytochrome P450 hydroxylase and non-heme iron-dependent oxygenases, we herein report the first modular, dual catalytic difunctionalization of unactivated alkenes via manganese-catalyzed radical ligand transfer (RLT).

Copper-Catalyzed Multicomponent Oxysulfonylation of Alkenes with Cyclobutanone Oxime Esters and Hydroxamic Acids via the Insertion of Sulfur Dioxide

Nengneng Zhou et al.

Summary: A copper-catalyzed multicomponent oxysulfonylation of alkenes with cyclobutanone oxime esters and hydroxamic acids via the insertion of sulfur dioxide has been developed. This reaction provides a direct approach to β-amidoxy sulfones in 35-90% yields using K2S2O5 as the sulfur dioxide surrogate and the in situ generated amidoxyl radical as radical interceptor. Mechanistic studies suggest the involvement of a radical-radical coupling reaction between the alkyl radical and amidoxyl radical.

Aliphatic oxime 3-(hydroxyimino)pentan-2,4-dione as new potential mediator for laccase-catalyzed decolorization of dyes

Olha O. Zosenko et al.

Summary: In this study, the aliphatic oxime HIPD was investigated as a mediator for laccase-catalyzed decolorization and detoxification of synthetic dyes. The results demonstrated the potential and limitations of using HIPD as a mediator for enzymatic decolorization of various types of dyes. The proposed laccase-mediator system showed high efficiency in degrading certain dyes, but had lower efficiency for other dyes. The system also showed the ability to convert dyes into low-toxicity metabolites.
