Donor Extension on Spiro-Acridine Enables Highly Efficient TADF-OLEDs with Relieved Efficiency Roll-Off

Hao Peng et al.

Summary: This study develops three thermally activated delayed fluorescent (TADF) emitters based on fluorene-spiro-acridine derivatives as donors, which exhibit high external quantum efficiency (EQE) and low efficiency roll-off. The emitters achieve high photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQYs) of 96-99% due to the rigid donor and acceptor composition. The enhancement of reverse intersystem crossing (k(RISC)) in IA-TRZ and the acceleration of radiative decay rate (k(r)) in 2S-TRZ and IT-TRZ contribute to their high electroluminescent performance.

Achieving over 36% EQE in blue OLEDs using rigid TADF emitters based on spiro-donor and spiro-B-heterotriangulene acceptors

Young Hoon Lee et al.

Summary: The design of robust TADF emitters is crucial for efficient and stable blue TADF-OLEDs. This study presents boron-based blue TADF compounds with a spiro-type boron acceptor and DPAC or sAC donors. The compounds exhibit short-lived delayed fluorescence and fast reverse intersystem crossing, leading to high-efficiency blue TADF-OLEDs with maximum EQEs over 30%. The device with the fully spiro 2 achieves a state-of-the-art EQEmax of 36.4% and a suppressed efficiency roll-off, highlighting the synergistic effect between the spiro-structure and the B-heterotriangulene acceptor skeleton.

Spiral Donor Design Strategy for Blue Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescence Emitters

Wei Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates the importance of energy level relationships between spiral donors and luminophores on the photoluminescent quantum yields of materials, and proposes the use of quantum chemistry simulations to accurately predict these relationships. The optimized molecular structure and energy alignment play a key role in enhancing the performance of TADF emitters. Ultimately, the TADF emitter DspiroS-TRZ achieved remarkable results with 99.9% PLQY and 38.4% EQE, the highest reported among all blue TADF emitters to date.
