Summary: The spread of antibiotic-resistant pathogenic microorganisms has led to the need for the discovery and development of new antimicrobial systems. Fatty acids have well-known antibacterial effects by inserting into the bacterial membrane. However, due to conflicting results in the literature and lack of standardization methods, it is difficult to draw clear conclusions on their antibacterial effect. Therefore, enhancing the solubility of fatty acids is a main goal before examining their antibacterial properties.

Summary: This study examines the effect of a specially designed bottle-shaped nanopore on the retentivity and anti-corrosion efficacy of lubricant oil on surfaces. The results show that the bottle-shaped pore helps to immobilize the oil and enhance its robustness and anti-corrosion properties. The increased oil capacity in the pore also allows for effective coverage of the underlying metallic surface at cracks, improving damage tolerance and self-healing capability. The use of higher viscosity oil further enhances these benefits and increases anti-corrosion efficacy.

Summary: In this research, amino-silane functionalized ZnO quantum dots (F-ZnO QDs), graphene oxide (F-GO), and their nanohybrids (F-GO@ZnO QDs) were used as effective nanofillers to improve the anti-corrosion and antifouling properties of waterborne epoxy coatings. The synthesized nanomaterials were characterized before and after silane functionalization. The nanocomposite waterborne epoxy coatings loaded with different nanofillers were prepared and their effects on surface roughness, water contact angle, adhesion strength, fracture surface, and corrosion resistance were considered. The results showed that the F-GO@ZnO QDs provided the highest barrier and corrosion resistance on the steel substrates, and the nanocomposite coatings exhibited higher water contact angle and adhesion strength. The antibacterial and antifouling properties of the coatings were also confirmed. The multifunctional performance of the epoxy/F-GO@ZnO QDs was attributed to the synergy effect between the GO, ZnO QDs, and amino-silane, highlighting the importance of nanohybrids in combining the advantages of different nanomaterials in one coating system.
