The effects of government subsidies and environmental regulation on remanufacturing

Qiangfei Chai et al.

Summary: This paper analyzes the effects of government subsidy policy and carbon cap and trade policy (CTP) on remanufacturing in a closed-loop supply chain. The results show that both policies can promote remanufacturing, and factors such as government subsidy, cost savings, and carbon trading price have a significant impact on the promotion of remanufacturing. The study also suggests that CTP can be an ideal substitution for the government subsidy policy.

Remanufacturing with innovative features: A strategic analysis

Can Baris Cetin et al.

Summary: In this study, the best remanufacturing strategy for OEM and IR in an innovative industry is investigated, taking into account the consumer valuation of products and the level of innovation. The research focuses on including innovative features in remanufactured products instead of passively carrying over product quality. Three remanufacturing strategies are considered: not remanufacturing, remanufacturing without adding innovative features, and remanufacturing with upgrades. The impact of competition and remanufacturing strategy on firms' environmental impact and consumer surplus is analyzed.

A system dynamics model for end-of-life management of electric vehicle batteries in the US: Comparing the cost, carbon, and material requirements of remanufacturing and recycling

Dipti Kamath et al.

Summary: End-of-life electric vehicle batteries can be remanufactured into second-life batteries, reducing the demand for virgin raw materials and carbon footprint. A system dynamics model is used to evaluate the changes in battery availability, economic value, and carbon footprint with the added remanufacturing stage in the US.

Retailer's make-or-buy decision for remanufactured products under in-house yield uncertainty

Baozhuang Niu et al.

Summary: This study examines a retailer that sells both new and remanufactured products and investigates the decision of producing in-house or relying on a third-party remanufacturer. The results show that consumers' high valuation of remanufactured products leads to increased orders of new products for the retailer, and the retailer can obtain higher profit when relying on a third-party remanufacturer.

Closed-loop supply chain network with interaction of forward and reverse logistics

Rong Fu et al.

Summary: Closed loop supply chain (CLSC) is beneficial to the environment but complex, with most studies focusing on product homogeneity and involving single manufacturers, distributors, or retailers. Rarely do studies analyze CLSC with network structures involving multiple competing and coordinating agents. Inspired by recent business cases, a coupled CLSC network model for heterogeneous products facing different market demands is developed.

Use of a product service system in a competing remanufacturing market *

Yu Xia et al.

Summary: Different types of product service systems have different impacts on the environmental and economic aspects of remanufacturing markets. A product-oriented product service system facilitates environmentally friendly product design and increased profits, while use-oriented and results-oriented systems help manufacturers retain product ownership and deter third-party remanufacturers.

Assessment of end-of-life vehicle recycling: Remanufacturing waste sheet steel into mesh sheet

Ziyad Tariq Abdullah

Summary: The remanufacturing of waste steel sheet (WSS) from end-of-life vehicles (ELVs) into useful mesh steel sheet (MSS) can significantly reduce carbon emissions, achieve economic benefits, and have environmental significance. The feasibility of remanufacturing process is high, especially for small-to-medium enterprises in developing countries.

Economic and environmental impacts of competitive remanufacturing under government financial intervention

Jiajia Nie et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the economic and environmental impacts of competitive remanufacturing through a game theoretical model. It reveals that asymmetric equilibria can arise even for identical manufacturers. Government intervention can have positive impacts on both industrial profit and environmental performance in the remanufacturing sector.
