Evaluation of TEM methods for their signature of the number of layers in mono- and few-layer TMDs as exemplified by MoS2 and MoTe2

Janis Koester et al.

Summary: In this study, the signature of mono- and few-layer MoS2 and MoTe2 was systematically evaluated using TEM methods. The number of layers was determined by comparing the results of three TEM methods and discussing their strengths and limitations.

Polymer-assisted TEM specimen preparation method for oxidation-sensitive 2D materials

Janis Koster et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that wet etching methods involving bases or acids hinder the atomically-resolved structural characterization of oxidation-sensitive two-dimensional materials during sample preparation, while an alternative polymer-assisted and mechanical-exfoliation-based method can reduce oxidation and enable atomically-resolved structural characterization of the samples.
