Fundamental insights into the effect of blending hydrogen flames with sooting biofuels

Yilong Yin et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of blending highly sooting biofuels with turbulent nonpremixed hydrogen-based flames on flame luminosity and radiant heat flux enhancement. The results show that adding 0.2 and 1 mol% vapourised biofuels to the hydrogen-based flame non-linearly improves the flame luminosity and radiant fraction. Transition toward emission-free energy systems by 2050: Potential role of hydrogen

Pawan Kumar Pathak et al.

Summary: Hydrogen has the potential to help the world achieve net-zero emission energy systems by 2050 and limit global warming to 1.5 degrees C by reducing 80 gigatons of CO2 by 2050. This requires the utilization of 660 million metric tons of low-carbon hydrogen and renewables, equivalent to 22% of global energy demand. In order to meet the decarbonization role, very high clean hydrogen production is needed, along with significant renewable power, electrolysis capacity, minimal carbon hydrogen production reforming capacity, and CO2 storage infrastructure.

Dynamic and threshold effects of energy transition and environmental governance on green growth in COP26 framework

Asif Razzaq et al.

Summary: This research examines the influence of energy transition and environmental governance on green growth in 37 IEA economies from 2010 to 2020. The study finds that when the energy transition index (ETI) is below the threshold of 0.485, it leads to lower green growth, but becomes significantly positive when it exceeds the threshold value. Environmental regulation also has a significant positive impact on green growth, especially when the regulation score is higher than 0.604. Therefore, inclusive and long-term policies for energy transition and governance are crucial for achieving the green growth agenda.

Impacts of green hydrogen for steel, ammonia, and long-distance transport on the cost of meeting electricity, heat, cold, and hydrogen demand in 145 countries running on 100% wind-water-solar

Mark Z. Jacobson et al.

Summary: As the world transitions to clean, renewable energy, the production and use of hydrogen become important considerations. This study proposes using green hydrogen produced solely through the electrolysis process with clean, renewable electricity. Through testing, the researchers find that producing green hydrogen intermittently, rather than continuously, may reduce overall energy costs with 100% wind-water-solar (WWS) energy systems. The findings suggest that grid operators should incorporate intermittent green hydrogen production and use in their planning.

Hydrogen-rich syngas production by the three-dimensional structure of LaNiO3 catalyst from a blend of acetic acid and acetone as a bio-oil model compound

Chenlong Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the conversion of biomass bio-oil to hydrogen using a blend of acetic acid and acetone as a model compound. The 3D-LaNiO3 catalyst synthesized by a silica template method is found to have smaller crystal size and higher oxygen vacancies, enhancing its redox ability and resistance to coke deposition. The catalyst shows great activity in producing hydrogen-rich syngas, with the highest H2 gas yield observed at 600 degrees C and a steam/carbon mole ratio of 3. The stability of the perovskite structure and its ability to resist coke deposition contribute to the sustained catalytic activity.
