Understanding Coating Thickness and Uniformity of Blade-Coated SnO2 Electron Transport Layer for Scalable Perovskite Solar Cells

Severin Siegrist et al.

Summary: The blade coating method can upscale the low-cost and solution-based perovskite photovoltaic devices. However, the control of charge transport layer thickness is challenging due to the inherent nature of the blade coating process. This study systematically investigates the film thickness and uniformity of blade-coated SnO2 colloidal dispersions in the Landau-Levich regime by varying substrate temperature, solution volume, solution concentration, and coating speed. The findings show that the advancing meniscus height heavily affects the SnO2 film thickness, and the dispensed solution volume can improve thickness uniformity.
