FABP4 Controls Fat Mass Expandability (Adipocyte Size and Number) through Inhibition of CD36/SR-B2 Signalling

Emmanuelle Berger et al.

Summary: Adipose tissue hypertrophy during obesity has various effects on health, and the expandability of adipose tissue depends on the size and number of adipocytes. The accumulation of lipids as triglycerides in mature adipocytes is regulated by lipid uptake and lipolysis. This study aims to understand the mechanisms involved in fat mass regulation through fatty acid/FAT-CD36 signaling.

Gestational exposure to high fat diets and bisphenol A alters metabolic outcomes in dams and offspring, but produces hepatic steatosis only in dams

Early-life exposure to bisphenol A induces dysregulation of lipid homeostasis by the upregulation of SCD1 in male mice

Ruyue Fang et al.

Summary: Exposure to Bisphenol A (BPA) is associated with an increased prevalence of obesity-related metabolic syndrome. This study investigated the mechanisms of BPA-induced adipogenesis in preadipocytes and the effects of BPA exposure on lipid and glucose homeostasis using cell and animal models. The results showed that BPA exposure increased lipid content in adipocytes and caused a NAFLD-like phenotype in mice. RNA-Seq analysis revealed dysregulation in multiple biological processes, such as lipid metabolism and inflammation. Importantly, abnormal expression of SCD1 and APOD was found in association with BPA exposure and obesity.

Association of Prenatal Exposure to Endocrine-Disrupting Chemicals With Liver Injury in Children

Vishal Midya et al.

Summary: Prenatal exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) may increase the risk of liver injury in children. Specific EDCs, including organochlorine pesticides, PBDEs, perfluoroalkyl substances, and metals, were associated with an increased risk of liver injury, while high-molecular-weight phthalates and phenols were associated with a decreased risk. Additionally, polychlorinated biphenyls and PBDEs were associated with higher levels of hepatocellular apoptosis. These findings suggest that prenatal exposure to EDCs may be a potential risk factor for pediatric nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.

Prenatal exposure to bisphenol S and bisphenol A differentially affects male reproductive system in the adult offspring

Archana Molangiri et al.

Summary: Early exposure to bisphenol may result in adverse reproductive health issues in later life. This study investigated the effects of orally administered bisphenol S (BPS) and bisphenol A (BPA) on testicular development in rats. The results showed that prenatal exposure to BPS can lead to changes in plasma testosterone levels, testis histology, inflammation, oxidative stress, and sperm DNA damage, potentially affecting male reproductive functions.

Gestational bisphenol A exposure induces fatty liver development in male offspring mice through the inhibition of HNF1b and upregulation of PPARγ

Zi Long et al.

Summary: Gestational exposure to BPA results in hepatic fatty liver in offspring, especially in males. Inhibition of PPAR gamma can suppress hepatic lipid accumulation induced by gestational BPA exposure. Downregulation of HNF1b, upregulation of PPAR gamma, and subsequent hepatic lipid accumulation are crucial for the development of NAFLD.
