Fifty Years of Inorganic Biomimetic Chemistry: From the Complexation of Single Metal Cations to Polynuclear Metal Complexes by Multidentate Thiolate Ligands

Josef Taut et al.

Summary: This article reviews the coordination chemistry of transition metal complexes and metal-sulfur aggregates involving thiolate-incorporating ligands in the past 50 years. The development of sulfur-rich ligands in coordination chemistry is closely related to the progress in bioinorganic chemistry, especially iron-sulfur enzymes. The review is divided into five sections, focusing on complexes with increasing nuclearities, including binuclear complexes with compartmental macrocyclic ligands. The researchers in this field have successfully controlled the nuclearity of the complexes through ligand engineering, overcoming the challenge posed by the strong tendency of thiolates to coordinate with multiple metal cations.

Synthesis, structures and magnetic properties of end-on pseudo-halide bridged dinuclear copper(II) complexes with N,O-donor salicylaldimine Schiff base blocking ligands: A review

Puspendu Middya et al.

Summary: In this review, different synthetic routes of pseudo-halide bridged dinuclear copper(II) complexes with tridentate Schiff base blocking ligands are discussed, including their structures and magnetic properties. The correlation between magnetic exchange via pseudo-halide bridge (i.e. ferromagnetic or antiferromagnetic) and bridging mode and bonding parameters, such as Cu-N and Cu center dot center dot center dot Cu distances, Cu-N-Cu angles, and the nature of the magnetic orbitals, is also explored.

Synthesis, characterizations, antitumor and antimicrobial evaluations of novel Mn(II) and Cu(II) complexes with NNN-tridentate s-Triazine-Schiff base ligand

Eman M. Fathalla et al.

Summary: A new s-triazine hydrazone ligand, 2,4-bis(morpholin-4-yl)-6-[(E)-2-[1-(pyridin-2-yl)ethylidene]hydrazin-1-yl]-1,3,5-triazine, was used to synthesize three new metal complexes. The complexes showed distorted trigonal bipyramidal or hexa-coordinated structures with different ligand and ion coordination. The complexes exhibited higher anticancer activity against colon and lung cancer cell lines and greater antibacterial activity against gram-positive bacteria compared to the free ligand.

Protein binding and anticancer activity of two newly synthesized Schiff base platinum (II) complexes: A theoretical and experimental study

Summary: The present study investigated the interaction of new Schiff base-platinum complexes with human serum albumin and their toxicity effects on cancer cell lines. Fluorescence and circular dichroism spectroscopy revealed the quenching mechanisms and structural changes of the albumin caused by the complexes. Molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulations identified the main interactions between the complexes and albumin. The IC50 values of the complexes on the cancer cell lines demonstrated their anti-cancer activities.

Synthesis, characterization and pharmacological studies of cobalt(II), nickel (II) and copper (II) complexes of thiazole schiff bases

Bhushan S. Sail et al.

Summary: Many Schiff bases derived from 2-hydrazinobenzothiazole and isatin have been used to form [ML2]Cl2 type Co(II) complexes. Nitrogen from azomethine, oxygen from lactonyl, and nitrogen atoms of the thiazole ring contribute to coordinating the metallic ion. The complexes consist entirely of metal and have a geometrical octahedron structure, as confirmed by analytical, magnetic, and spectroscopic investigations.
