Anisotropic thermally superinsulating boron nitride composite aerogel for building thermal management

Miracle Hope Adegun et al.

Summary: Anisotropic boron nitride nanosheet (BNNS)/polyvinyl alcohol composite aerogels with an aligned porous structure are developed using freeze-casting technique. The optimized BNNS content in the composite aerogel exhibits an ultralow thermal conductivity of 20.3 mW/mK in the through-thickness direction, a high solar-weighted reflectance of 95.0% and a high emittance of above 93%. These exceptional thermo-optical properties make the composite aerogel promising for energy saving in buildings as superinsulating envelopes.

Vertically Aligned Silicon Carbide Nanowires/ Boron Nitride Cellulose Aerogel Networks Enhanced Thermal Conductivity and Electromagnetic Absorbing of Epoxy Composites

Duo Pan et al.

Summary: A cellulose aerogel with highly enhanced thermal conductivity was successfully obtained by constructing a vertically aligned silicon carbide nanowires/boron nitride network. The composite exhibited significantly increased thermal conductivity compared to pure epoxy, both in vertical and horizontal directions. Additionally, it showed good electrical insulation and excellent electromagnetic wave absorption performance.

Developing flame-retardant lignocellulosic nanofibrils through reactive deep eutectic solvent treatment for thermal insulation

Yeling Zhu et al.

Summary: This study focused on the high-yield conversion of low-cost, coarsely pretreated biomass into lignocellulosic nanofibrils via reactive deep eutectic solvent (DES) pretreatment. The resulting LCNF showed high aspect ratio and high sulfate ammonium functionalization, and could be processed into highly porous aerogel with good mechanical properties and thermal insulating performance. The surface sulfate ammonium functionalization also endowed LCNF with flame retardancy and self-extinguishing property.
