Microstructure and mechanical properties of brazed In718/SiC joints with AgCuTi/Cu foam/AgCuTi composite filler

Wei Wang et al.

Summary: This study uses a AgCuTi/Cu foam/AgCuTi composite filler to braze the Inconel 718 (In718) nickel-based superalloy and SiC ceramic in a vacuum furnace, achieving a metallurgical bonding at different temperatures. The microstructure and phase composition of the brazed joint are analyzed, revealing the evolution mechanism. The maximum shear strength of the brazed joint is 43 MPa, achieved at 900 degrees C for 15 min, and the fracture mode is brittle fracture. This work provides a method for preparing complex ceramic/metal components for high-temperature environments.

Vacuum brazing TiAl intermetallic to K4169 alloy using amorphous filler metals Ti56.25-xZrxNi25Cu18.75

Liangliang Zhang et al.

Summary: A series of Ti56.25-xZrxNi25Cu18.75 ( x = 0-25, at.%) filler metals were used to vacuum braze TiAl intermetallic to K4169 alloy. The impact of Zr content on the interfacial microstructure and shear strength of joints was investigated. The findings showed that the shear strength of the joint initially decreased and then increased as the Zr content increased, and the fracture surfaces of all brazed joints exhibited brittle fracture.

Effect of single alloying element (Ti, Nb, V, Cu) on microstructure and mechanical properties of dissimilar TiAl/Ni-based superalloy laser joints

Xiaolong Cai et al.

Summary: Dissimilar welding of TiAl-based alloy and Ni-based superalloy with different single alloying elements (Ti, Nb, V, Cu) using laser was studied. The results showed that laser welding with Ti filler metal was not successful, while welding with Nb filler metal resulted in macrocracks due to the formation of intermetallics. Successful welding was achieved using V and Cu filler metal, forming different solid solutions and eutectic phases in the weld zone, influencing the mechanical properties of the joints.

Microstructure evolution and mechanical properties of TiAl/GH536 joints vacuum brazed with Ti-Zr-Cu-Ni filler metal

Chen-yang Jiang et al.

Summary: A novel Ti-Zr-Cu-Ni amorphous filler metal was successfully fabricated and applied to vacuum brazing of TiAl alloy and Ni-based superalloy. The interfacial microstructure and mechanical properties of the brazed joints were analyzed. The results showed that brazing temperature had significant effects on element diffusion, microstructure evolution, and metallurgical quality of the joints. The thickness of certain layers in the joints was not affected by brazing temperature. The obtained joints exhibited excellent shear strength at room temperature and elevated temperature.

In situ SEM study on tensile fractured behavior of Al/steel laser welding- brazing interface

Hongbo Xia et al.

Summary: The study investigates the effect of microcrack behavior on the bonding strength of Al/steel interfaces. It is observed that interfaces without or with discontinuous intermetallic compounds have low bonding strength. However, the addition of specific compounds can significantly improve the bonding strength.

Lattice distortion and the influence on mechanical and thermodynamic properties of high entropy (HfZrTaNbTi)X (X , C, N, NC) by Ab initio investigation

Ning Ding et al.

Summary: This paper systematically studies the structural distortion and its influence on the mechanical and thermodynamic properties of high-entropy ceramics. The results show that the lattice distortion enhances the structural stability and ductility of these ceramics, improves thermal expansion and heat storage capacity, and increases the entropy of the ceramics. The electronic structures analysis reveals the underlying mechanism for stability improvement. This study provides valuable insights for understanding the properties and designing high-entropy ceramics.

Bao Wan et al.

Summary: A novel Ti-Zr-Fe-Cu-Ni-Co-Mo filler metal was used to join TiAl to GH536, and the effects of brazing temperature on interfacial microstructure and chemical composition were analyzed. The shear strength and brazing seam thickness initially increased and then decreased with increasing brazing temperature, with joint performance being controlled by brazing seam thickness and formation of intermetallic compounds.

Vacuum brazing TiAl intermetallics to GH3030 alloy with a multi-component Ti-based filler metal

Shuai Li et al.

Summary: TiAl intermetallics were vacuum-brazed to GH3030 alloy using a multi-component Ti-based amorphous filler metal. The microstructure and shear strength of the brazed joint were studied at different brazing temperatures. Increasing the brazing temperature accelerated the diffusion between the filler metal and base metals, leading to thicker transition zones and a blocky primary phase Ti(Al, Cu, Ni)(3) in the middle brazed seam. The maximum shear strength was obtained at 990 degrees C, with cracks propagating along the interface of the transition zone/middle brazed seam during the shear test.
