Integrated Front-End Approaches for Wireless 100 Gb/s and Beyond: Enabling Efficient Ultra-High Speed Wireless Communication Systems

Christian Carlowitz et al.

Summary: Wireless communication demands higher data rates, and to meet this need, modem implementations capable of providing data rates of 100 Gb/s and beyond are required. The 60-GHz band has been used to increase wireless local area network data rates, and the 802.11ay extension has further targeted data rates toward 100 Gb/s. The use of higher bandwidths, such as the frequency range between 252 and 325 GHz, is also being investigated to achieve even greater data rates.

A Hybrid True-Time and Phase-Delayed Approach for Millimeter-Wave Beam Steering

Luca Steinweg et al.

Summary: In this research study, a novel hybrid approach to beam steering combining true time delay and phase shift is investigated. The study aims to achieve continuous beam steering with minimal beam squint in wideband mm-wave transceivers. The research presents the first 2-bit time delay stage operating above 200 GHz and a novel approach using a combination of time delay circuit and a 90 degrees vector-sum phase shifter for broadband continuous beam control. The results show that the proposed approach reduces beam squint and area consumption while enabling coarse and fine direction control.

Enabling the Internet of Things With CubeSats: A review of representative beamsteerable antenna concepts

Junbo Wang et al.

Summary: The emergence of CubeSats has enabled the vision of using a satellite constellation to provide global seamless Internet coverage, known as the Internet of Space (IoS), which is the key enabler of the Internet of Things (IoT). Developing an antenna system for CubeSats that can sustain high data-rate link and dynamically reconfigure its radiation pattern to illuminate geographical areas in need of more coverage is a major challenge in making IoS a reality. Properly tailored antenna concepts developed by representative researchers could make CubeSat-based IoS achievable, but open challenges and technology gaps must be addressed by future research to realize IoT.

A Review of Multibeam Phased Array Antennas as LEO Satellite Constellation Ground Station

Guolong He et al.

Summary: Small satellites in low Earth orbit are typically organized as a satellite constellation, with the satellite number reaching several hundred or even tens of thousands for global coverage. Phased array antennas are considered attractive candidates for future satellite ground stations as they can support multiple satellites simultaneously, providing advantages over traditional reflector antennas.
