Application of blocky calcite vein LA-MC-ICP-MS U-Pb dating and geochemical analysis to the study of tectonic-fault-fluid evolutionary history of the Tabei Uplift, Tarim Basin

Duan Wei et al.

Summary: Blocky calcite veins in drilling cores were studied using petrography, in-situ laser ablation multiple collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry U-Pb dating, and trace element analysis. The study aimed to determine if calcites without visible syn-kinematic features could provide insights into the timing of local fault/fracture activity and far-field tectonic movement. The results revealed a temporal link between calcite precipitation and fracture activity, as well as the potential of blocky calcites to record far-field tectonics. The findings contribute to the understanding of the tectonic-fracture-fluid evolutionary history of the study area. Rating: 8 out of 10.

Calcite U-Pb ages constrain petroleum migration pathways in tectonic complex basins

Fuyun Cong et al.

Summary: Secondary oil migration processes can be quantitatively constrained using oil-inclusion fluorescence and in situ calcite U-Pb dating. The study revealed two main oil charge events and a northward-decreasing trend for oil maturity during single charge events. Active faults and dilatant fractures along faults act as major vertical oil-migration pathways.

In situ calcite U-Pb geochronology by high-sensitivity single-collector LA-SF-ICP-MS

Shitou Wu et al.

Summary: The study on U-Pb geochronology of calcite using LA-ICP-MS is an emerging method with improved sensitivity, resulting in precise measurements of U and Pb isotopes. The optimized instrument parameters allowed for accurate analysis of commonly-used calcite U-Pb reference materials, demonstrating the reliability of the technique in obtaining robust ages. The image-guided approach using LA-ICP-MS elemental mapping proved to be an efficient tool in age determination.

Calcite U-Pb, pyrite re-Os geochronological and fluid inclusion and H-O isotope studies of the Dafang gold deposit, South China

Kexin Wang et al.

Summary: The Dafang gold deposit in South China is a representative gold mineralization. The gold ore occurs in the contact zones between late Jurassic granodiorite porphyry and late Paleozoic limestone as well as the fractures in them. The deposit has three primary mineralizing stages, and the ages obtained indicate a genetic link with deep or nearly late Jurassic intrusions. The ore-forming fluids were initially dominated by magmatic water and later diluted by meteoric water. Fluid boiling and sulfidation are key factors for gold deposition at Dafang.

Rapid Analysis of 129I in Natural Water Samples Using Accelerator Mass Spectrometry

Mengting Zhang et al.

Summary: A rapid and simple co-precipitation method for iodine separation from natural samples was developed for determination of I-129 using accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS). The method showed high recovery rates for iodine extraction and a low detection limit for I-129, making it suitable for rapid and reliable analysis of low level I-129 in natural water samples.

In situ LA-ICPMS U-Pb dating and geochemical characterization of fault-zone calcite in the central Tarim Basin, northwest China: Implications for fluid circulation and fault reactivation

Peng Yang et al.

Summary: The study provides evidence of at least six generations of secondary calcite precipitations and multi-stage fluid circulation in the Central Uplift of the Tarim Basin. This suggests episodical reactivation in the central fault zone during the Paleozoic, which has implications for hydrocarbon exploration.
