First-principles prediction of structural, electronic and optical properties of alkali metals AM4BN3H10 hydrides

Ende Yu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the structural features and hydrogenation mechanisms of Li4BN3H10 and Rh4BN3H10 alkali metal hydrides using first-principles calculations. The results show that Li4BN3H10 and Rh4BN3H10 are thermodynamically and dynamically stable. The hydrogen storage mechanism of AM4BN3H10 hydride relies on the formation of [BH4] and [NH2] groups. The hybridization between B and H atoms in [BH4] and N and H atoms in [NH2] enables efficient hydrogen storage. Rb4BN3H10 exhibits better hydrogen release properties compared to Li4BN3H10 and Na4BN3H10 due to its narrower band gap. Overall, AM4BN3H10 hydride is a promising hydrogen storage material with high capacity.

Influence of oxygen and nitrogen doping on the structure and magnetic properties of CoNi alloy: First principle calculations

Abdalla Obeidat et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigated the effects of oxygen and nitrogen doping on the magnetic properties of CoNi alloy using density functional theory. Our calculations revealed that CoNi:ONi alloy exhibited enhanced saturation magnetization and slightly reduced magnetic crystalline anisotropy, while CoNi:OCo alloy showed a small reduction in both parameters. On the other hand, CoNi:NCo and CoNi:NNi alloys consistently exhibited reductions in saturation magnetization and magnetic crystalline anisotropy. Therefore, CoNi:ONi alloy could be suitable for permanent magnets.

Structural, electronic, and magnetic properties of X3Pt and XPt3 (X=Fe, Co, or Ni) alloys: Density functional theory and Monte Carlo simulation

Khaled Aledealat et al.

Summary: Density Functional Theory and Monte Carlo Simulation were employed to investigate the electronic and magnetic properties of X3Pt and XPt3 binary alloys (where X = Fe, Co, or Ni) with L12 structure. The results show that these binary alloys exhibit a ferromagnetic phase and X3Pt has a Curie temperature (Tc) above room temperature, while XPt3 has a Tc below room temperature. The exchange interactions Jxx, JxPt, and JPtPt were calculated, and JNiNi in Ni3Pt compound was found to be the strongest. Finally, the magneto-crystalline anisotropy of these alloys was evaluated.

Effects of Cu, Ag and Au on electronic and optical properties of α-Ga2O3 oxide according to first-principles calculations

Yong Pan

Summary: We studied the effects of alloying elements (Cu, Ag, and Au) on the electronic and optical properties of α-Ga2O3 and found that Cu-doped α-Ga2O3 is more stable compared to Ag and Au doped α-Ga2O3. The alloying elements can expand the volume and lattice of α-Ga2O3 due to differences in valence electronic density. We demonstrated the ultraviolet properties of α-Ga2O3, but adding alloying elements shifts the band gap from the ultraviolet to visible light region and improves the storage optical properties of Ga2O3.

Study of structural, electronic, and magnetic properties of L10-ordered CoPt and NiPt: An ab initio calculations and Monte Carlo simulation

K. Aledealat et al.

Summary: Structural, electronic, magnetic, and thermomagnetic properties of CoPt and NiPt alloys were investigated using first-principles calculations and Monte Carlo simulation. Spin configurations for antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic states were proposed to explore the magnetic properties of both alloys. The implementation of Coulomb interaction improved the localization of the d orbital. The results showed that the ferromagnetic state was the most stable configuration for the studied alloys. Additionally, tetragonal distortion could enhance the magnetocrystalline anisotropy energy, and both CoPt and NiPt alloys exhibited a high Curie temperature according to the Monte Carlo simulation.

Tailoring the hydrogenated mechanism of Pt3Al from first-principles investigation

Yong Pan et al.

Summary: By using first-principles methods, the role of hydrogen in Pt3Al compound was investigated. It was found that hydrogen is thermodynamically stable in both cubic and tetragonal phases, and prefers to occupy the octahedral interstice in the tetragonal phase. The introduction of hydrogen weakens the volume deformation resistance, shear deformation resistance, and elastic stiffness of Pt3Al, but improves its ductility due to the electronic interaction. Moreover, hydrogen also weakens the Debye temperature of Pt3Al.

Influence of oxygen and nitrogen doping on the structure and magnetic properties of FePt alloy: First principles calculations

Abdalla Obeidat et al.

Summary: We studied the magnetic and electronic properties of L10-FePt alloy interstitial doped by oxygen or nitrogen using tetragonal distortion. The density functional theory from first principle was applied, and the generalized gradient approximation (GGA) of Perdew-Burke-Ernzerhof (PBE) was used. We found that the magnetocrystalline anisotropy (MCA) significantly increased for FePt:NPt, reaching a value of 3.879 meV, exceeding the pristine value. The anisotropy field (Ha), saturation magnetization (Ms), and the energy product (BH)max were close to the pristine value, and these parameters can be tuned for practical applications.

Computational investigation of the Fe2XAs (X = Mn and Co) full Heusler alloy: Structural, electronic, and magnetic properties

Bilal Aladerah et al.

Summary: A comprehensive computational investigation using density functional theory (DFT) was carried out to study the structural, electronic, magnetic, and mechanical properties of Fe2XAs (X = Mn and Co) Full Heusler Alloy. The results show that the stable crystal structure of both alloys is the L21 prototype. In addition, Fe2MnAs exhibits halfmetallic behavior with 100% spin polarization at the Fermi level. Both alloys also possess significant magnetic moments, and Fe2CoAs alloy has a high Curie temperature, making them suitable for various technological applications. Furthermore, insights into the effect of tetragonal distortion on their performance under high-pressure conditions are provided.

Magnetic properties of transition-metal atomic monolayer in nickel supercell: Density functional theory and Monte Carlo simulation

Khaled Aledealat et al.

Summary: The magnetic properties of 3d, 4d, and 5d transition-metal atomic mono-layers sandwiched in pure nickel were studied using DFT and MC methods. It was found that these transition metals can modify the magnetic properties of nickel, and the perpendicular and in-plane magnetocrystalline anisotropy energies show variations. The substitution effect of TM monolayers on exchange interactions extends to the third layer, and the Curie temperature changes depending on the TM and sandwich structure.

First-principles study of electronic structure and magnetic properties of L10-ordered FeNi, FePd, and FePt alloys

K. Aledealat et al.

Summary: The structural, electronic, and magnetic properties of L10-ordered FeM alloys (M = Ni, Pd, or Pt) were studied using first-principles method, revealing that the PBE approximation has the most accurate results for lattice parameters and that the most stable spin configuration is ferromagnetic. FePd and FePt alloys can transition from ferromagnetic to antiferromagnetic state by varying the tetragonality ratio, leading to the observation of a pseudogap. Large magnetocrystalline anisotropies were found in FePt alloy, while FePd and FeNi showed relatively lower values. Additionally, Heisenberg exchange interactions were calculated from first-principles and Green's functions formalism.
