Oxidation of aldehydes to carboxylic acids over geopolymer supported CuO

Jyoti Upadhyay et al.

Summary: This article focuses on the synthesis of copper (II) oxide impregnated mesoporous geopolymer (CuO/Geo) catalyst and its catalytic activity for the oxidation of aldehydes to the corresponding carboxylic acids. CuO/Geo was synthesised by a two-step method. The synthesized catalyst was characterized and found to be a good catalyst with 67% conversion of benzaldehyde to benzoic acid. The oxidation reaction was found to take place via Cu2+/Cu+/Cu2+ transformations and the rate determining step was identified.

Computation Study on Copper-Catalyzed Aerobic Intramolecular Aminooxyge native C=C Bond Cleavage to Imides: Different Roles of Mononuclear and Dinuclear Copper Complexes

Yu Li et al.

Summary: This article reports a computational study on the mechanism of Cu-catalyzed aerobic aminooxygenation reactions. It was found that a Cu(I) precursor can generate two types of Cu(II) complexes to initiate the reactions. The first catalytic stage involves the conversion of alkene-tethered amides to alpha-amidated aldehydes, while the second stage involves the generation of imides from alpha-amidated aldehydes. The presented findings expand our understanding of Cu-catalyzed aerobic reactions and the role of different copper complexes.

Entering Chemical Space with Theoretical Underpinning of the Mechanistic Pathways in the Chan-Lam Amination

Sanjoy Bose et al.

Summary: In recent years, there has been a growing interest in the development of efficient copper-based catalytic systems for C-N bond formation using the Chan-Lam reaction protocol. However, the mechanistic understanding of the Chan-Lam amination reaction is still underdeveloped. This study provides detailed insights into the fundamental reaction steps involved in Cu-catalyzed carbon-heteroatom bond formation, with a focus on the Chan-Lam amination. The results shed light on the denucleation of dimeric copper acetate, the disproportionation of Cu(II) complex, and the regeneration of Cu(II) from Cu(I) intermediates.

Aerobic Copper-Catalyzed Intramolecular Cascade Oxidative Isomerization/[4+4] Cyclization of 2,2′-Disubstituted Stilbenes

Zhi-Jun Zhang et al.

Summary: An aerobic copper-catalyzed cascade oxidative isomerization/[4+4] cyclization of 2,2'-disubstituted stilbenes efficiently prepares various 5,10-heteroatom-containing tetrahydroindeno[2,1-alpha]-indenes in a highly atom economic manner. The formation of the bicyclic product is likely through a sequence of rapid single-electron oxidation/[4+4] cyclization from 2,2'-disubstituted stilbene, proven by control experiments and density functional theory calculations. This study provides an important addition to the aerobic copper-catalyzed oxidative cyclization.
