On The Role of Community Structure in Evolution of Opinion Formation: A New Bounded Confidence Opinion Dynamics

Yuan Peng et al.

Summary: This study proposes a novel bounded confidence opinion dynamics model (LPA-HK) to investigate the relationship between opinion evolution and community structure. The model introduces the label propagation algorithm (LPA) to study this relationship from a micro perspective. Simulation experiments are conducted to verify the effectiveness and performance of the model.

Coevolution modeling of group behavior and opinion based on public opinion perception

Weimin Li et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the prevention and control of harmful group behavior on social networks by studying the evolution mechanism of group behavior. Most researchers have focused on studying group behavior evolution in deterministic environments, neglecting the influence of uncertain environments. Therefore, this paper starts with the behavior decision-making process of individuals in an uncertain environment, defines the perception of public opinion, and builds a coevolution model of group behavior and opinion. The effectiveness of our model is confirmed through experiments and real group behavior evolution.

Resilient consensus in continuous-time networks with ?-hop communication and time delay

Yilun Shang

Summary: This paper addresses the resilient consensus problem in continuous-time multiagent systems against potential malicious agents. Network topologies and distributed protocols are developed to ensure consensus of cooperative agents in the presence of heterogeneous delays and multi-hop communication. The proposed frameworks can handle both linear and nonlinear network coupling functions, and they also solve the resilient consensus problem for agents with higher-order integrators. Numerical simulations illustrate the introduced errors by the resilience mechanisms when there are no malicious agents in the network.

Adapted Deffuant-Weisbuch model with implicit and explicit opinions

Yun Luo et al.

Summary: The psychology literature notes that there may be a difference between individuals' implicit and explicit opinions due to political correctness or peer pressures. This study proposes a modified model that incorporates both implicit and explicit opinions to investigate the evolution of opinions, considering the existence of opinion leaders. Theoretical analysis and simulations show convergence and strong diversity of opinions.

An agent-based model of opinion dynamics with attitude-hiding behaviors

Jiefan Zhu et al.

Summary: In opinion dynamics, individuals may choose to remain silent or conceal their true opinions due to inconsistencies between the surrounding discourse and personal views, which affects the evolution of public opinion. Existing models often do not consider this attitude-hiding phenomenon. This study introduces a model based on online social networks that offers a better explanation of the impact of individual behavior on the evolution of public opinion.

Multi-attribute group decision-making considering opinion dynamics

Yupeng Li et al.

Summary: The study introduces a novel MAGDM method considering opinion dynamics that uses a 2-tuple linguistic model and TOPSIS to reduce information loss in opinion formation. A modified opinion dynamics model is developed by extending the bounded confidence hypothesis. Three simulations are conducted to verify the feasibility of the extended bounded confidence model, and a comparison analysis is done for a case study of supplier selection.

Polarization and Fluctuations in Signed Social Networks

Pedro Cisneros-Velarde et al.

Summary: Recent research on social networks has been focused on modeling and analyzing the evolution of opinions in relation to interpersonal relationships. This article proposes a new model that incorporates the boomerang effect in opinion dynamics, with a particular emphasis on the structural balance property in signed networks. The model shows richer and more intuitive behavior of opinions in networks that do not satisfy structural balance, including persistent fluctuations in opinions.

Fuzzy inference based Hegselmann-Krause opinion dynamics for group decision-making under ambiguity

Yiyi Zhao et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a group decision-making mechanism for social agents with fuzzy interactions, utilizing fuzzy inference to describe interaction rules and introducing an influence graph model. A fuzzy opinion dynamics model is built based on defuzzified interaction weights, analyzing patterns of collective final opinions and investigating the impact of fuzzy values on opinion gaps and interaction weights. Simulation results show how fuzzy values influence collective opinions and reveal quantitative relationships between the original model and the fuzzy model.

Opinion dynamics in modified expressed and private model with bounded confidence

Jian Hou et al.

Summary: In this paper, a modified expressed-private-opinion (MEPO) model with bounded confidence is proposed for the study of opinion dynamics in social networks. Two categories of neighborhood relationships, communication neighbor and opinion neighbor, are introduced in the MEPO model, with the latter being determined by the confidence level. The design of the stubbornness parameter lambda is focused on, and experimental results show that the final opinion cluster number is influenced by the rate of closed-minded individuals and the growth rate of lambda.
