Viability and transcriptional responses of multidrug resistant E. coli to chromium stress

Summary: This study reveals that multidrug resistant (MDR) bacterial strains have a higher viability and different gene expression patterns compared to susceptible strains under hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI) stress. The MDR strain showed higher bacteriostatic rates and lower levels of reactive oxygen species compared to the susceptible strain. Moreover, the MDR strain also exhibited higher expression levels of antibiotic resistance genes and other related genes.

Study on the interaction between grain polyphenols and intestinal microorganisms: A review

Summary: Studies have shown that grain polyphenols are primarily used by microorganisms in the large intestine to regulate the composition of intestinal microorganisms. Furthermore, there is interdependence between intestinal microorganisms and the host, and polyphenols can coordinate their social behaviors through quorum sensing (QS) communication system. Therefore, this paper explores the interaction between grain polyphenols and intestinal microorganisms, summarizes the classification of grain polyphenols, the digestion and absorption of grain polyphenols in the gastrointestinal tract, and the relationship between intestinal microorganisms and QS. It was found that grain polyphenols have a promoting effect on beneficial bacteria in the intestine, and they can also be used as a QS inhibitor to regulate the expression of virulence factors of some harmful bacteria. This study is expected to provide a theoretical basis for understanding the regulation of intestinal microorganisms by grain polyphenols through the QS mechanism, in order to maintain intestinal homeostasis and promote human health.

Schiff bases as linker in the development of quinoline-sulfonamide hybrids as selective cancer-associated carbonic anhydrase isoforms IX/XII inhibitors: A new regioisomerism tactic

Summary: A series of novel quinoline derivatives with sulfonamide as zinc-binding group (ZBG) were synthesized as carbonic anhydrase (CA) inhibitors. The compounds exhibited efficient inhibition against tumor-associated CA isoforms IX and XII, with one particular hybrid 10b demonstrating significant activity against MCF-7 cancer cells under normal and hypoxic conditions. The compounds also induced apoptosis in MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 cells and altered the Bax/Bcl expression ratio. Docking studies supported the biological findings, indicating the effectiveness of the regioisomeric tactic for the quinoline-based sulfonamide molecules in inhibiting tumor-relevant hCAs IX/XII.

Lactic acid bacteria biofilms and their antimicrobial potential against pathogenic microorganisms

Summary: The continuous growth of pathogenic microorganisms and associated biofilms poses severe public health challenges. However, these difficulties have enabled scientists to develop novel and safe methods for combating pathogens. The use of biofilms produced by lactic acid bacteria (LAB) against pathogenic bacteria has recently gained popularity. This review provides an in-depth look at LAB biofilms, their distribution, and mechanisms of action against pathogenic bacteria. The bioactive substances produced by LAB-forming biofilm may be active against undesirable microorganisms and their products, which is of great interest in improving human health. Therefore, this review implies that a combination of LAB biofilms and other LAB products like bacteriocins could provide viable alternatives to traditional methods of combating pathogenic microorganisms and their biofilms.

The aggregation of -pSC(4)-AuNPs caused by the presence of SMZ can be observed through colorimetric assay. The method showed a good linear relationship, low detection limit, and high recoveries.
