Wavelength-based Attributed Deep Neural Network for Underwater Image Restoration

Prasen Sharma et al.

Summary: This article introduces a new deep learning framework called Deep WaveNet to improve underwater images. The framework enhances the performance of image restoration tasks by considering the traversing range of color channels and choosing the appropriate receptive field size. It also incorporates an attention mechanism to refine the learned multi-contextual features. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms existing state-of-the-art approaches on benchmark datasets and is validated in various high-level vision tasks such as underwater image semantic segmentation and diver's 2D pose estimation.

Underwater polarization imaging for visibility enhancement of moving targets in turbid environments

Tao Yu et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a turbid underwater moving image recovery method based on the global estimation of the intensity and the degree of polarization of the backscattered light, combined with polarization-relation histogram processing techniques. The full spatial distribution of the intensity and the DOP of the backscattered light are obtained by using frequency domain analysis and filtering. Experimental studies were conducted on static and moving targets under turbid water, and satisfactory image recovery quality is achieved.

Vision Transformers for Single Image Dehazing

Yuda Song et al.

Summary: Image dehazing is a low-level vision task to estimate haze-free images. Convolutional neural network methods dominate this task, but vision Transformers haven't made a breakthrough. This study introduces DehazeFormer, an improved version of Swin Transformer, with modified normalization layer, activation function, and spatial information aggregation. Multiple variants of DehazeFormer were trained and shown to be effective.

Fusion-based underwater image enhancement with category-specific color correction and dehazing

Yiming Li et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a fusion-based underwater image enhancement technique, which divides underwater images into two categories and applies different algorithms for color correction. A ground-dehazing algorithm is used to remove haze in the underwater image, and a channel-wise fusion method is used to fuse the color-corrected image and dehazed image. Experimental results demonstrate the robustness and state-of-the-art performance of this method in different underwater scenes.
