Biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles using actinomycetes, phytotoxicity on rice seeds, and potential application in the biocontrol of phytopathogens

Ingrid P. Zwar et al.

Summary: In this study, two strains of actinomycetes were isolated from Brazilian soil and mangrove sediment, and silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were synthesized and characterized. The AgNPs exhibited antifungal activity against phytopathogens without phytotoxic effects on rice plants. Therefore, these AgNPs have the potential to be used as biocontrol agents against plant pathogens.

Optimization of microfluidic synthesis of silver nanoparticles: A generic approach using machine learning

Konstantia Nathanael et al.

Summary: The synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) is optimized using a T-junction microfluidic system and a machine learning approach. The reduction of silver nitrate with tannic acid in the presence of trisodium citrate is used to synthesize AgNPs. The study uses a decision tree-guided design of experiment method to determine the size of AgNPs.

Effect of reducing agents on the synthesis of anisotropic gold nanoparticles

Sunghoon Yoo et al.

Summary: The seed-mediated method is a general procedure for the synthesis of gold nanorods. In this study, the effect of two reducing agents, ascorbic acid and hydroquinone, on the growth process was investigated. It was found that by controlling the volume ratios of the reducing agents, gold nanorods with higher aspect ratios could be synthesized.

Effect of residence time in morphology of silica nanoparticles synthesized in a microfluidic reactor

Fiona W. M. Ling et al.

Summary: In this study, silica nanoparticles were synthesized using the sol-gel method in both bench and microflow systems. The microflow system produced nanoparticles with higher monodispersity and smaller particle size distribution compared to the bench system. Utilizing a microflow system resulted in a 93.94% reduction in particle size, with the ability to control particle size and distribution by adjusting residence time.

Computational modelling and microfluidics as emerging approaches to synthesis of silver nanoparticles - A review

Konstantia Nathanael et al.

Summary: This review provides an integrated overview of the current state of knowledge for sustainable production of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), with a focus on recent advances in their synthesis using microfluidic-based methods and computational modeling, and their properties and applications. The review discusses investigations made at different scales using molecular dynamics simulations, population balance modeling, computational fluid dynamics, and data-driven modeling, and highlights their limitations and advantages. The combination of microfluidics-based synthesis and physics-driven simulations and data-driven models is identified as a powerful tool to link input information and output data pertaining to the properties of AgNPs, with the potential to overcome limitations of traditional methods and reduce environmental impact.

Parametric Study of Gold Nanoparticles Synthesis under Micro-Continuous Flow Conditions

Mohannad T. Aljarrah et al.

Summary: This study reports the synthesis of gold nanoparticles using chemical reduction in batch and microreactor methods. A parametric study was conducted to analyze the effect of several factors on the size of the nanoparticles, and the best conditions obtained were used to synthesize gold nanoparticles in a glass chip microreactor. The results show that the microreactor method consistently produces smaller nanoparticles in a shorter reaction time.
