Julian C. Brandmeier et al.

Summary: This article investigates a novel approach using upconversion nanoparticles for the detection of the COVID-19 virus and its SARS-CoV-2 variant. The upconversion-linked immunosorbent assay (ULISA) demonstrated a higher sensitivity than conventional assays, with a limit of detection of 1.3 pg/mL. Furthermore, the digital ULISA improved the detection limit by a factor of 10 compared to analog readout for SARS-CoV-2.

Cubic versus hexagonal - phase, size and morphology effects on the photoluminescence quantum yield of NaGdF4:Er3+/Yb3+ upconverting nanoparticles

Marta Quintanilla et al.

Summary: The size and shape of nanoparticles have a significant impact on their photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY). This study found that the distortion of the crystal lattice in nanoparticles smaller than 20 nm led to an increase in PLQY. Additionally, the shape of nanoparticles within the range of 20-60 nm was found to be particularly relevant for PLQY.
