Different degeneration patterns of paraspinal muscles in degenerative lumbar diseases: a MRI analysis of 154 patients

Jun-zhe Ding et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the different degeneration patterns of paraspinal muscles in degenerative lumbar diseases and their correlation with lumbar spine degeneration severity. The results revealed that the degeneration of paraspinal muscles showed different patterns in patients with degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis and degenerative lumbar kyphosis, and was correlated with the severity of the diseases.

Static and dynamic sagittal lumbar apex: a new concept for the assessment of lumbar lordosis distribution in spinal deformity

Chizuo Iwai et al.

Summary: The study conducted a prospective observation of 25 patients with spinal deformities, revealing that the location of the lumbar apex can change with different postural positions, but remains stable when assessed as the furthest point of global lumbar lordosis. These findings can help in assessing compensation of lumbar lordosis and guide lumbar lordosis molding in ASD surgery.

Correlation of Acetabular Anteversion and Thoracic Kyphosis Postoperatively with Proximal Junctional Failure in Adult Spinal Deformity Fused to Pelvis

Zi-Fang Zhang et al.

Summary: In adult spinal deformity patients, immediate thoracic kyphosis and acetabular anteversion are significantly correlated with proximal junctional failure postoperatively. Patients with acetabular anteversion <= 13 degrees have significantly restricted hip motion and higher incidence of PJF. Patients with postoperative TK >= 28.1 degrees have a significantly higher risk of developing PJF.

Spine-Pelvis-Hip Alignments in Degenerative Spinal Deformity Patients and Associated Procedure of One-Stage Long-Fusion with Multiple-Level PLIF or Apical-Vertebra Three Column Osteotomy-a Clinical and Radiographic Analysis Study

Zi-fang Zhang et al.

Summary: The study compared spine-pelvis-hip alignments in DSD patients undergoing PLIF or STO surgery at lower lumbar and thoracolumbar levels, finding significant improvements in post-operative X-ray parameters, but higher incidence of complications for patients undergoing STO surgery compared to those with multi-level PLIF.
