Systemic inflammation markers and the prevalence of hypertension: A NHANES cross-sectional study

Summary: Systemic inflammation markers, such as SII and NLR, are positively associated with hypertension prevalence, while PLR and LMR are negatively associated. SII may be a better warning marker for hypertension. This study emphasizes the importance of systemic inflammation in hypertension.

The association of diabetes status and bone mineral density among US adults: evidence from NHANES 2005-2018

Bo Liu et al.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the relationship between diabetes status and bone mineral density among adults with pre-diabetes and diabetes. The findings showed that both pre-diabetic and diabetic patients had increased bone mineral density in the hip, femoral neck, and lumbar spine. Subgroup analyses revealed that this trend was more prominent in whites, women, and those over 50 years old.

Bone Health in Patients with Dyslipidemias: An Underestimated Aspect

Panagiotis Anagnostis et al.

Summary: Dyslipidemia, especially elevated total and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol concentrations, is associated with low bone mass and increased fracture risk, possibly due to increased oxidative stress and systemic inflammation caused by dyslipidemia leading to increased osteoclastic activity and reduced bone formation.

Fat Mass Has Negative Effects on Bone, Especially in Men: A Cross-sectional Analysis of NHANES 2011-2018

Rajesh K. Jain et al.

Summary: This study found that lean mass is positively associated with bone mineral density (BMD) in individuals under 60 years old, while fat mass is negatively associated with BMD. This negative association is particularly notable in obese men. These findings highlight the importance of bone health in obesity and may help explain the higher fracture rates observed in some studies of obese individuals.

Associations of Fat Mass and Fat Distribution With Bone Mineral Density in Non-Obese Postmenopausal Chinese Women Over 60 Years Old

Jingzheng Fan et al.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between body fat accumulation, fat distribution, and bone mineral density in non-obese postmenopausal women. The results showed a positive association between total fat mass and bone mineral density, while fat distribution had a negative correlation with bone mineral density.

The associations between body fat distribution and bone mineral density in the Oxford Biobank: a cross sectional study

Catriona Hilton et al.

Summary: The study found a strong positive association between total lean mass and bone mineral density (BMD). Increasing mass of all fat depots was associated with increased total BMD when lean mass was taken into account. However, specific associations between different fat depots and BMD emerged after adjusting for both total fat mass and lean mass.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of central obesity traits on bone mineral density (BMD). The results indicate that hip circumference adjusted by BMI is negatively associated with BMD, while waist-to-hip ratio is positively associated with BMD.

The Saturation Effect of Obesity on Bone Mineral Density for Older People: The NHANES 2017-2020

Ya Zhang et al.

Summary: This study found a positive relationship between obesity and bone mineral density (BMD) in individuals over the age of 50. It also identified a saturation value for BMI and BMD, suggesting that maintaining a moderate BMI level (around 24.3 kg/m(2)) would result in optimal BMD in older adults.

The Relationship Between Bone Mineral Density and Body Composition Among Qatari Women With High Rate of Obesity: Qatar Biobank Data

Abdelhamid Kerkadi et al.

Summary: This study aimed to examine the association between BMD and body composition among Qatari women. The study found that women with low BMD had significantly lower body composition indicators. Lean mass was positively correlated with BMD, while the correlation between fat mass and BMD was negative and weak. The results suggested that fat mass may not be a strong protector of bones among women with a high rate of obesity.

Summary: The study showed a positive association between height-for-age Z score (HAZ) and consumption of energy, protein, carbohydrate, fat, vitamins A, D, E, B6, and B12, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, calcium, and iron. Children with higher HAZ tended to consume nutrient-dense foods like low-fat milk products, tea, and low-calorie fruit juice.

Association between obesity and risk of fracture, bone mineral density and bone quality in adults: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Anne-Frederique Turcotte et al.

Summary: The association between obesity and fracture risk may vary depending on skeletal site and sex, with inconsistent results among studies. While several studies have reported higher bone mineral density in patients with obesity, altered bone quality could be a major determinant of bone fragility in this population.
