Structure-activity relationship of dietary flavonoids on pancreatic lipase

Mang -Mang Li et al.

Summary: This study determined the inhibitory activities of 26 dietary flavonoids on lipase and found that flavone exhibited the strongest inhibitory activity. The binding affinity of flavones with lipase was stronger than flavanones, and was positively correlated with their inhibitory activity. The structure-activity relationship analysis revealed that the structure of C ring is crucial, with hydrogenation of C2=C3 bond and the absence of C=O group both causing significant decrease of inhibitory activity.

Separation and purification of anthocyanins from Roselle by macroporous resins

Dan Yang et al.

Summary: This study purified anthocyanins from Roselles using macroporous resins adsorption and desorption process. Among the six resins tested, DM28 had the highest adsorption capacity while DM21 had the fastest adsorption rate. The Freundlich model provided a better fit for the static adsorption isotherm. The mass transfer zone of each resin on a fixed bed was analyzed using the mass transfer zone model, with DM21 having the shortest length. The anthocyanins in Roselle extract were successfully adsorbed by DM21 fixed bed and desorbed by 70% ethanol, resulting in a 6-fold increase in anthocyanin content after lyophilization.

Preventive Effects of Anthocyanins from Lycium ruthenicum Murray in High-Fat Diet-Induced Obese Mice Are Related to the Regulation of Intestinal Microbiota and Inhibition of Pancreatic Lipase Activity

Na Li et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that anthocyanins from Lycium ruthenicum fruits have preventive effects in high-fat-diet induced obese mice. Anthocyanins regulate the diversity of gut microbiota, decrease the ratio of Firmicutes to Bacteroidota, increase the abundance of Akkermansia, and reduce the abundance of Faecalibaculum to prevent obesity.

Serum Phospholipids Are Potential Therapeutic Targets of Aqueous Extracts of Roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa) against Obesity and Insulin Resistance

Carmen Alejandra Rangel-Garcia et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of two varieties of roselle extracts in preventing obesity and insulin resistance, and identified targeted molecules through metabolomics. The results showed that both extracts prevented weight gain, while the white roselle extract had a greater effect in improving insulin resistance and decreasing free fatty acid levels.

Inhibition of enzymes associated with obesity by the polyphenol-rich extracts of Hibiscus sabdariffa

Manisha Singh et al.

Summary: This study explores the inhibitory properties of organic and aqueous extracts of Hibiscus sabdariffa against obesity-related enzymes. The organic extracts showed stronger inhibitory effect due to their higher content of polyphenols. Molecular docking analysis revealed that phenolic compounds in Hibiscus sabdariffa can bind to the active sites of these enzymes, generating hydrogen bonds and inhibiting their activities.

Effects of a Myrciaria jaboticaba peel extract on starch and triglyceride absorption and the role of cyanidin-3-O-glucoside

Pamela Alves Castilho et al.

Summary: This study showed that the jabuticaba peel extract inhibited both starch and triglyceride absorption in the intestine, while cyanidin-3-O-glucoside had a lesser effect. Both the peel extract and cyanidin-3-O-glucoside could inhibit triglyceride absorption, with the former being more potent. Overall, the peel extract presents promising prospects as a fat absorption inhibitor, with cyanidin-3-O-glucoside playing a decisive role in this process.
